United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Lago Grey

So if I've got this straight, the FL2 is over-priced by 10K, which would make the entry model £13K and the XS £20K. If you want off-road capability, buy a Defender. And the FL2's competitors are tractors and tanks.

OK, I think I see where you're coming from. Rolling Eyes

What makes the FL2 special, and worth every penny, is that it can do this, and feel like it's enjoying it.

That may not matter to you, but it does to me! And there are very few cars that can do it as well as the FL2 - and with the exception of the Defender they all cost a lot more than the FL2. Engineering off-road capability is expensive - it's not just a case of adding a few lines of code to the ECU for the terrain response. The FL2 spends its money of the off-road stuff. The X3 on the gadgets and gimmicks. And the FL2 more than justifies its cost to those who appreciate its capabilities.

never liked BMW's! this just adds to the list of 'never to buy' vehicles I'm afraid. I love Land Rover products and also Ford products... The Ford Kuga is a nice vehicle but doesn't match the FL2. If I had the money I'd buy a brand new FL2 (and possibly the new range rover, hehe) nothing else. For now, happy with the wonderful 2007 one I have Smile

"Engineering off-road capability is expensive"

It certainly was with mine - 2 haldex units replaced, rear diff pressure pump replaced and rear diff bearing replaced within 12 months all from a FL2 less than 3 years old, under 40000 miles and never been offroad....
