Haldex pump noise - Stereo

Hello All,

First post here and hoping some one can help me out.

I have an 09 FL2 i6. I recently installed an aftermarket GPS, reverse, screen, etc in the centre cubby hole. All works well but......There is a high pitched noise present in this unit and the aux input to the existing factory stereo every time a pump on the rear diff runs. This pump attached to the Haldex coupler runs for two seconds approximately every eight seconds when the engine is running.

My question is: Is this normal? The pump noise can easily be heard with the engine running listening underneath the boot space.

I am fairly confident I can filter out this noise and have a few things to try to accomplish this. Just would be handy to know if this is normal function of the Haldex pre charge pump, etc.

Thanks guys, Fitzie

Being a Haldex Generation 4, it's perfectly normal.
But if the pump is "audible", then it wont hurt to check the filters and oil in the Haldex.
The pump too.

If I connect an MP3 player through the aux socket there is an audible whine through the speakers, don't think this helps you but thought it worth mentioning.

Thanks Alex and SYFL2,

This has been driving me half barmy, I have now grounded the pump motor body and put a ground loop isolator in the from the aftermarket to the aux input it is much improved. The pump must run at fairly high rpm with several poles as I have matched the tone to about 10khz which is extremely annoying to the human ear.

Have confirmed with MR automotive here in Redcliffe, Brisbane that this cycling is normal. Thanks for you input guys I really appreciate it. Next step is to put capacitors as close as possible to the motor to suppress the EMI.

Not particularly noisy just that it is getting onto the whole electrical system as I have run the aftermarket direct from battery and noise is still on stereo. Will get pump inspected when service is due.

Thanks again for your Help.

Cheers,

Fitzie
