I'm planning to install an auxiliary socket somewhere in the cargo area supplied from a spare slot in the cargo fuse box with a 10A fuse for a coolbox etc.
Has anyone removed the side panels yet, and how is it done without damaging the panels?

Carlfraz has had some panels removed when his ICE system was installed, not sure which ones, but he might have seen how they attached

Apparently you carefully remove them to stop any damage

Sorry chum I was not there when they removed them or refitted them, and boy am I glad I was not to as there is so much wiring behind them, and wading and amplifiers.

If it helps I can pop back in and ask but judging by some of the scratches the rear pillar covers have on them, they ain't easy to get out.

If you want me to pop back over to the ICE man and find out for you I will, just ask - let me know

Hi

I removed the right hand cargo area panel today while fitting tinted privacy glass film - I pulled the edges starting near the boot rubber and it came away - it was held in place by white push clips if that makes sense!

Some of the clips fell off and it was murder finding them in the sides of the boot

I know what you mean. i assume the other panel will remove the same way so it will just be a matter of finding the location with most room behind the panels to fit the socket.

Can I take it from this post that there is no 12V DC power socket in the rear load area?
I thought that there was!

My FL2 arrrives in 6 weeks and the wife is going to kill me when she finds out as she had her heart set on a mini cooler in the back

Hi Zorglub44,
If you install the socket in the same location i did, there is no requirement to remove the side panel as you can get your hand in far enough from the bottom of the panel to tighten the socket locking nut, but if you install it on the vertical surface, the side panel would need to be removed.
When you remove the small trinket tray at the side, there are 2 posts welded to the floor which are not used. I don't know what they are for, but M6 nuts fit them perfectly which is where i connected my ground wire.
You should use wire suitable for 17 amps.
For the supply, I dismantled an in-line fuse holder, cut part of the contact and soldered the supply wire to it and inserted it into the rear load space fuse box fuse location FD8. Section FD is for the audio system so nothing too critical in that loop. To remove the fuse box, you need a short 10mm spanner to loosen the two securing nuts and cut a couple of cable ties. This is live when the ignition is switched off which I prefer as i would need a coolbox to be powered when on a 2 hour car ferry. An alternative would be to use a Scotchlok taking a feed from the fuse box feeder with an in-line fuse. Remember with the socket live with the ignition off, it will drain your battery after some time depending on the load.

This morning I installed a double socket (which came as a self contained unit + curly wire). I couldnt see any advantage in mounting it in the boot sidewall, so I put the double socket in the LH "oddments" box and drilled a small hole in the box side to allow the wire through. Wired the earth to one of the bolts sticking up underneath the "oddments" box (used washers and 2 xM6 nuts), then wired the live to the permanent live leaving fuse FA6 (15amp) using a scotch connector. I also put a 10amp in-line fuse in the wire. Simple really but had to free up the fuse box (loosen the 2 x 10mm nuts at the back) to get access and be able to see which cable came from which fuse.
