First statement about the 'Family of Discovery'?

I saw something on Land Rover's Facebook page that linked to this YouTube video:

No information about the cars (except a single sketch image towards the end) but is this the first official announcement about the Discovery family of cars?

Apparently, it is from 2015 onwards, as well suspected. Do we think any news will drop out of the Geneva car show this week? 1st time FL2 owner. 2007 SE i6 in Tambora Flame.

This has been known for quite some time. The Discovery 4 as you know has just been face lifted and re-branded DISCOVERY and the 4 has been dropped.

This is the kick off model to start it all off. The Freelander replacement will be the first full new model under the Discovery brand with the big Disco 4 replacement following not long after. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. So Land Rover has gone from a Rover model range to a company with two makes, or has it? is Range Rover a make now, or is it still a model type? Land Rover will make three new cars each with their own model range, but seemingly there will be Range Rover with its own model range, but will it be still a Land Rover? Perhaps the ultimate reversal will occur and Land Rover may eventually make Rovers, a non sporting Jaguar but clear of high volume small cars. Then the Daimler can come back as the car for the wealthy, but not as ostentatious as a Roller and not as sporty as a Bentley. I am sure JLR could make a more attractive car than the present Roller and sell well in the larger luxury MB market. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I thought that Range Rovers were just up market (expensive) versions of Land Rovers and Jaguars, a bit like Audi is to VW.

Evoque = Freelander
FFRR = Discovery
RRS = Jaguar GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver
LONG GONE - '55 Norton Dominator 99 SS cafe racer

Then JLR has three makes, though Audi is in the VAG group it is not a VW. I suppose it depends whether the LR badge disappears from the RR models. my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

It will work like this :-

Land Rover is the manufacturer and main brand.

Under The Land Rover Brand you will have three model ranges.

Discovery - Leisure
Range Rover - Luxury
Defender - Dual Purpose

So :-

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque
Land Rover Range Rover Sport
Land Rover Range Rover Vogue

Land Rover Discovery Sport
Land Rover Discovery Name to be confirmed

Land Rover Defender Name to be decided

There will be additions to each range.

So pretty simple really. But very clever I think. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I don't think there is a lot more they can say. We will see 3-4 models under the Discovery name. Freelander replacement in both 5 and 7 seat versions, Discovery 4 replacement, a new model that falls under the Freelander.

mmmmm, just a thought, if the Freelander replacement is going bigger (which it is) and rumoured to be called Discovery Sport with the options of 5 and 7 seats. I wonder if the baby of the group would be called something like Discovery Freelander.

After all, each model is going to have to have its own name under the Discovery range. Just like each Range Rover model has its own name.

It'll work well :-

Discovery "Freelander"
Discovery "Sport"
Discovery "I am the big bastard don't mess with me" Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

These photos are the clearest I have seen of one of those test mules. I am not too sure what model this is really meant to be, but I hope it isn't the FL replacement. I want a flat top roof, not a cheese wedge!

The guy at the dealer said they're making something in between the Evoque and a Range Rover Sport. Any ideas what this might be? 11 SD4 HSE Stornoway Grey / Black Windsor Leather

I believe the shots of the mule with the big grill have been confirmed as the Jaguar SUV with Evoque body panels.

I'd like to swap my 08 SE for a new 'Freelander 3', but for the same spec (and assuming current FL2 prices are comparable to the new model) I could buy a nearly new XF S Sportbrake with a V6 and 275 BHP. Living out in the sticks and with the roads as crap as they are, 4x4 is useful, but the Jag is certainly nice! (and keeps up my record of only owning British made cars)

That prototype is actually the New Jag cross over under an Evoque stretched body as mentioned above.

As said countless times before, ignore these test mules. They mean absolutely nothing.

I have now seen the new Freelander replacements body shell and it doesn't look like an Evoque. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........
