United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Santorini Black
Wear On The Upper B Pillars - FL2

Hi, I'm very new to this world of 4x4's so please treat me gently!! I bought my 2007 FL2 back in September, TD4 SE in Santorini Black with just 37,000 on the clock. Overall its in great condition with the exception of some staining on the seats - which I'm having recovered in leather by The Seat Surgeons in York. Photos will follow hopefully if I find out how to post them!

Anyway to the problem in hand, I have noticed that the front seat belts have worn grooves in the upper B pillar covers, so onto Google and low and behold up come 2 technical service bulletins - LTB00129 (March 2008) and LTB00312 (March 2011) both relating to B pillar wear and the action to take.

Does anyone know if I can still ask for my B pillar cover trims to be replaced or is there a statute of limitations on these bulletins?

Since I got the FL2 I have fitted 19" Evoque alloys, a rear 'spoiler', stainless trims on the load space opening and the rear windows tinted so shes starting to look the business. A few more additions, including the new leather seat trims should finish the job. Photos to follow one way or another!

Very common problem.
I had mine changed just before the warranty expired 2.5 years ago.
Now the replaced part is showing wear. The chances are that yours has already been replaced once before.

All you can do is ask your local LR dealer if they can do anything about it.

Did they not offer a redesigned part? And, is it available for user upgrade? 10MY (Sept 09) TD4 HSE Auto in Stornoway Grey (Now Gone)

Mine a 57 plate and had them replace some 3 years back under warranty but they are still cutting into the trim, took it to the main dealers last year and was quoted £240 per side. For that price I'm just going to live with it.

Same here. They've just changed the MOT regs so a 'fluffy' seat belt is no longer a fail. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
Evoque SD4 Dynamic Lux Auto
Present: Audi A3 S Line.

Crying or Very sad At £240 per side for replacement I will either live with them or try and find some good salvage parts and try to replace them myself!! I will pursue it with Land Rover direct but I won't hold my breath. Unfortunately I have no warranty on the vehicle so its unlikely any of the main dealers will want to even discuss it. Thanks for your comments anyway.

It was funny at the time as the girl in services came out with the report for the repair she said that's going to be £240 to fix, at that moment I was thinking it's not that bad then she said would you like the passager side doing as well, then I could feel my legs starting give way.

I sometimes think these main dealers have strange, specially chosen humans, totally devoid of emotion, reason and mechanical knowledge just to sit and create estimates for jobs like these, as they often don't seem to bear any relationship whatsoever to the actual work required!!!!!!!

Thanks Xtd5, I will have a punt on that. It says its in 'white' but how do you tell what your interior trim colour is classified as - aren't there creams as well?

Reply From Land Rover

I have spoken to Land Rover Customer Services about the B pillar wear and they won't do anything about it as the car is now out of warranty. I asked, as they have admitted there is a bad batch of B Pillar trims out there, whether they would supply the parts at cost and I would have them fitted - again no, particularly as I hadn't bought my FL2 from a main dealer or proposed getting the work done there!! Apparently a technical bulletin is nothing like a recall and does not obligate them to replace the offending parts. So I either put up with them or cough up to have them changed basically :blub 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE in Sumatra Black. 38,000 miles.
