Battery for Freely

Our Freely (57 reg approved used TD4 HSE) wouldn't start this morning for my wife. She called out the RAC who towed her to the nearest Land Rover service centre (which is the one we usually use for repair work as it's very close to my wife's office). The RAC guy said it was a flat battery and Land Rover have said it needs replacing. Annoyingly, unlike our last car (BMW), batteries don't appear to be covered under the approved used warranty. Land Rover said it would cost £120 for them to put in a 'generic' battery which they 'wouldn't advise' and it would cost £250 for them to put in a Land Rover battery.

A quarter of a grand seems crazy to me for a car battery. I'm tempted to pick one up at Halfords and go down and put a new battery in myself. Any ideas on recommendations on batteries? I might just tell them to put the generic one in but I'd probably ask them what it is they're putting in first.

Some of us have fitted this one:-

It is higher spec than the original and good quality. It is also slightly bigger than the original but fits well.

I got mine from Eurocarparts but they don't seem to have any at the moment. But Ebay do:-

I'm sure I've read somewhere on here that if you get a different spec battery then software on the car needs adjusting, someone will know better than me. Try Dan at Duckworths on here, he might be able to do you a good deal?? Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

The software only needs changing if you go from lead acid to AGM or the other way round. The spec of the Exide EA 852 is just greater in Ah and CCA. John

so the EA852 is better spec, slightly bigger in size and fits ok in the battery box by the looks of it?

Just found it with a company for £66.85 (£75 and change with delivery)

So ordered one for myself as i keep charging mine and my blackvue keeps turning off due to low voltage

EDIT: Just got a call and the battery is out of stock Twisted Evil but is here for middle of next week Smile )

I replaced the battery in my previous FL and went for reserve online and collect in store with Eurocarparts. Price comparable to others but readily available. They listed a 'normal' and 'long' version. I went for 'normal' which turned out to be about an inch shorter (in length) than the original, but otherwise all fine. 2016 BMW X3 30d SE in red

The exide is fine. You will need to fit the little overflow tube from the original battery, by prizing out the plug in the appropriate end. Also to reset the windows (see handbook). The trip mileometer will also reset to zero.

I began ordering something online with Europarts the other day but changed my mind and didn't complete the checkout process.
Their system recognised this and I got two follow-up emails from them, enticing me to order - each offering a discount. The second email may or may not have suggested to use the generic code LASTCHANCE30 at the checkout....
