Scotland 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Lago Grey

I had issues with a previous engine, the specialist in high pressure common rail diesel engines explained that the engine would fire up the majority of the time (in uk climate) without glow plug assistance such is the compression ratio & fuel delivery within the chamber of these newer designs. I too may try the false start technique Thumbs Up

This should work as stated with a TD4E. Some early models (allegedly) don't have the delay. My 2007 never delayed and the dealer said that was normal. In which case the "manual" delay could be helpful, although it never failed to start even at -10 deg. Hasn't been cold enough here yet for my 2013 SD4 to notice!
As regards the TD5, it was easy to hear when the plugs were needed - they only have 4 plugs, so when really cold they run on 4 cyls for a few seconds until they warm up!
