Been broken into.

Wifey went out this morning and found our Freely door ajar, the glove box open and it's contents strewn all over the seats. Just my Ray Bans and her Dior sunglasses were missing. No damage to car but we had this happen about 10 years ago on another car outside our house but the Police caught them that time - they had a scanner and had opened about a dozen cars down our road. Wifey is adamant that she locked it last night so I'm just wondering whether a scanner had been used again. Has anyone heard of this happening on the FL2 and can it be prevented? Only advice from Police was to remove anything valuable and leave the glovebox open! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

never heard of a scanner being used on a Freelander but if you double lock at night then the doors wont open even if you smash the window and use the inside handle 1995 P38 now dead

Bad luck, glad there's no damage. In the three years i've been on here i can't remember reading of anyone having been broken into by scanning, only a beemer thread but that was done by getting access to the OBD port.
The FL2 is category 2 immobiliser and that states 'anti scanning' but who knows if this has been breached.

sorry to hear ! always a pain.

Buy one of these and mount it on the wall where you park the car.
Just looks like an ordinary outside lamp but has a tiny camera, works on SD card on a continual loop.

We check our 32g class 10 card once every three months and reformat just to be on the safe side.

caught several attempts of car being tampered with and also had success with the people being caught

Takes very good video image, we have covered the word " gaurdcam" with black tape.

I've heard the glovebox open theory before. The idea of course is that the crim walks past and looks through the window for anything on display and notices the glovebox is open and empty. Breaking in would therefore be a waste of time and effort.

lol - happened to me in the late 80's. Some Censored nicked the VW badge off the front of my mums golf then got in and rifled through my music - left the lot on the passenger seat! Still laughing now!

Reminds me of the story about the bloke that left a sign in his van window saying "There is nothing of any value in this car". He came back to find his window broken and a note saying "Just checkin'"! Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I guess the difference is (again in theory) that the crim doesn't rely on a sign but can see with his or her own eyes that there is nothing in the car or glovebox.

Of course, there is always the distinct possibility they may break in to look under the seats or access the boot. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Had a mate once who had a Lexus, used to park it very close to a mobile phone mast every night. Regularly he would find it unlocked in the mornings and after a lot of investigation by him, turns out the mast was sending out some kind of test signal during the night and it was this that was unlocking his car. MY2010 TD4 HSE Santorini Black, 19" Alloys, Almond Leather, Lux Pack, Rear Spoiler, Adaptive Xenons

Yep, she's adamant. Apart from locking it every time she uses it, it is part of her OCD (I joke) nighttime locking up procedure. She always double checks it's locked when she double locks the front door at night. It's definitely a mystery. Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

Could it be a sticky door lock Idea mine was locked and my son opened the rear door, the alarm was set off and I still didn't register that the door must have been unlocked till later

Also if the alarm didn't go off, then get the internal sensors working, covered on this fine forum not so long ago

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Shame but that is the world we live in.

Because of a few things I put CCTV in on our house... I even have a sticker showing it on the windows.

Where it is the car will be watched clearly and I guess any crim who knows his stuff will know its a camera ( vandal proof to a point ).

That said my wife went to work to find some one had took her badge off the front - god knows but but thats £40 to replace ( no I am not joking ) and then the day after they took some wheel nut covers.

My view on this was that they had cased it a few times and come prepared...

Moral of the story - what ever you do - if they want to they will nick....
