All advice that I have ever read on the subject warns against using a service station or an Aire for an overnight stop. However people still do it in order to save the cost of staying on a secure camp site - average in France is €15. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

This has (supposedly?) been happening for years, but what's interesting in this article is the comment regarding the Royal College of Anaesthetists:

Quote:
The Royal College of Anaesthetists believes it would be impossible. It has issued a statement saying: ‘Even the more powerful modern volatile agents would need to be delivered in tankerloads of carrier gas by a large compressor.’

If they're right (and they ought to know!) what's really been going on?
And yet are they right? We all know the potential effects of a relatively small amount of carbon monoxide, for example.

The theory I have heard is that this happens when people drive over to France and having had a long journey stop off at a service area or aire. By then they are fairly knackered so down a bottle of wine and crash out having forgotten to lock the doors and put valaubles away. Opportunistic thief then quietly opens the door and takes whatever is in reach.

Of course this only happens to camper vans and motor homers as we caravanners aren't allowed to stop in such places and are much more responsible people by nature Thumbs Up GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver

I once stayed in a hostel in Munich, I was travelling and partying with a few canadian guys I met. the hostels cerfew was midnight and the other guys left the beer hall to get back in time, meanwhile I had plans to go back to a hotel with an American girl I was trying to impress.

long and short of it my plans failed do to an officious hotel doorman and I tried to get into the hostel after midnight,, refused. so had to sleep on a park bench literally.

The Canadians meanwhile were sleeping the sleep of 1000 beers whilst the hostel staff robbed them blind in their beds. passports traveller cheques cash all taken from their money belts as the wore them.

so I had to foot all food bills until the Canadians got a reimbursement on their stolen travellers cheques Evil or Very Mad

the police simply said, oh that happens a lot at that hostel but the staff keep changing and we can never catch them

as for the couple in the camper van did the thieves steal their sofa cushions as well leaving behind hideous sponge things instead? At work

Often hear of happening to Truck Drivers, usually a case of hear say, hardly ever do you hear from someone it actually happened to.

The gas is collected from the ventilation extractor system during the caravan clubs annual speech day, fragments of caravan related speeches can instantly knock any body out and are too boring to be noticed by forensic scientists even incredibly good looking ones on csi. At work

We used to have a hen house on wheels with a tow bar. The wheels were cast iron and about 10" diameter and it was only towable with a tractor so you could really hold the traffic up with that. GONE - '07 TD4 GS manual Zermatt Silver
