Flight from London to Los Angeles

Just wondering if anyone has flown from Heathrow to LAX and what your flight time was (I know it can vary depending on head wind or tail wind etc). Also, just out of interest, can you remember from the flight how far North it went (roughly)?

Some have said that the flight goes over Canada but others say North East USA then across the middle of the country. I guess that will vary for some reason.

In August but it's my big holiday for my 30th this year. It's a coach tour covering LA, Vegas and San Franciso plus the Grand Canyon and Yosemite National Park.

It seems from that site that Virgin Atlantic (we are flying with them) use Airbus aircraft on that route. We had the Boeing 747 to New York.

Flying premium economy too so looking forward to relaxing on board: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/the-v...onomy.html LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Nice. Usually go Business for work and cattle class if I'm paying Laughing
Top tip = lots of water and lots of moisturiser for the face every hour. It makes a difference. Tip given to me by a air hostess when I got upgraded to Qantas First Class once Thumbs Up * GONE. Did exactly same trip, plus few extra places. Including Lake Tahoe which was fab.Stayed at Timber cove with hotel on the beach, water was 26 everyday.
Hired a huge 4x4 and fuel was cheap as chips.
We also did Death Valley on the way to Yosemtie. Coach won't go through Death Valley.
Worth going to Anahiem to see glass cathedral. Do the Hoover Dam, extended tour, don't forget Alcatraz and a visit to the Cheesecake Factory at Maceys in San Fran.
From Vegas Calico worth a visit.
Have a fab time. We did over a month and it was fab but expensive. Jaguar x-type sport gone

It's 14 days for us and all trips are included to places such as Hollywood studios and Alcatraz. The coach takes Route 95 on the way from Vegas to San Francisco so fairly close to Death Valley and I dare say a lot warmer than any UK summer Cool

When we were in LA it was 90 and in Death Valley over 125 , it was mind blowing heat , Vegas was 120 during the day and and San Fran was a very chilly 55 ! We had to go and buy extra cloths !
We also spent time in Vista ocean side and experienced a 5.6 earth quake and what they called a Shaker. A multi story car park collapsed and the cars were about as thick as a telephone book afterwards.
The restaurant we were in had everything come off the walls and we were thrown out our seats and ran outside. It was weird experience but our kids loved it ! Highlight for them.
We also swam with dolphins. Terrific experience. Very Happy Jaguar x-type sport gone

I should also add that in Vegas we have upgraded the hotel to Treasure Island and in San Francisco we've upgraded to Marriott Marquis. LA is a Marriott hotel anyway.

FIND YOUR FLIGHT & SEAT

Doc / Anyone

If your are flying you can always discover and compare what your airline (or potential alternative carrier) can offer you in aircraft type, cabin layout, seat: class, pitch, width and entertainment facilities, cabin photographs, flight times and schedules etc., here:

http://www.seatguru.com/findseatmap/findseatmap.php

Very accurate database which I've used many times. On a trans-continental flight that extra inch or two in seat pitch and width makes all the difference Thumbs Up

United Kingdom 2015 Freelander 2 SD4 SE Auto Orkney Grey

I flew Air New Zealand a few years back - they had the best leg room for cattle class. Stopped over for 2 days in LA to break the journey to Auckland. Totally underwhelmed by LA - very tacky and dirty. Would not rush back unless it was a grand tour of the West coast. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Agreed.

LA is a dump.

Frisco is nice, as is Santa Barbara.

Vegas is...well, Vegas!!

Yosemite is a touch touristy, but nice - Zion National Park is better (in my opinion).

When I head over to the west coast, I always go to the Seattle/Portland area - it's far less touristy, and far nicer than California.
