Another retro-fit xenon question

If i retro fit xenon headlight units with the adaptive function to my Freely will they just default to the straight ahead position?

Tom

Hmmm...not so sure. Have they got the levelling motors disconnected, or is it likely to be searching for the missing axle sensors via can? Foraging near Gaydon....

No, i am sure others have done it with adaptives and hadn't had a problem. That said I have a are set of non adaptive Xenons I might be tempted to sell.

No one as done it with Adaptives that I'm aware of. Standard Xenons is pretty simple, a visit to the Dealer to stop the flickering, but some dealers are unwilling to do it. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

What's the MoT situation with adaptives but no self levelling - I thought that was a failure?

Of course it may be that the adaptives will be out for maintenance at MoT time...

MOT, you should have self levelling and headlamp wash, both to avoid dazzle - self levelling is self explanatory, the headlamp wash is because when dirty, the beam fragments through the dirt and can dazzle. In practice, its all nonsense, unless your towing or have really mucky headlamps. As you say at MOT time. You just change them over. Most Testers wouldn't detect the Xenons that said.

Bit naughty though, I mean you could also put your best tyres on, new wiper blades, new exhaust and then once passed the test put all the old rubbish back on again, defeats the object of even having a test if the cars tested in a state of not how it normally is??

Technically, not true. I'm an MOT tester and I wouldn't fail them if not fitted. You can only fail them IF THEY ARE FITTED AND NOT WORKNG. You cannot fail them if they are not fitted.

http://www.motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s01000701.htm

"Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system. Where such systems are fitted, they must work; however, it is accepted that it may not be possible to readily determine the functioning of self levelling systems. In such cases, the benefit of the doubt must be given." Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I know of someone who deliberately fitted wiper blades that were 1" shorter than the standard spec ones to get it through the MOT, there was a crack in the screen which with the correct wipers was in the swept area, it passed. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Perhaps so, but SteveD, a Tester is saying its wouldn't be a fail. I don't know if there's a definitive on this.

Personally, although I can see the logic is both the self levelling and the headlamp washers, its one for the pen pushers of this world. UNLESS you have a load or a trailer, the self levelling proviso is nonsense - besides which you can always manually manipulate them and the headlamp washers, well most don't really clean the headlamps, they just wet them, so what's the point?

Definitive's in that link I posted. Absolutely cannot be failed IF NOT FITTED. Guaranteed. Thumbs Up

Plenty of anomalies in the mot. For example, rear seat bets not working? Remove the seats and they cannot be tested. Also cannot be tested if child seat fitted. Lights not working? Headlamps broken? Remove 'em. If that leaves a dangerously sharp edge on the bodywork, still cant fail it as it has not been caused by 'accident or corrosion'. No such thing as a 'daylight mot' that some people wrongly refer to but you will get an ordinary mot with an advisory that states 'lights not fitted at time of test'. Cracked windscreen? Remove it! Etc, etc.....

As testers, we must just test to the standards and cannot impose our own views as to the roadworthyness of a vehicle. Sometimes a car that would pass an mot would still leave the driver open to prosecution under the construction and use act. Whistle Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto
