Groaning noise

Hi all
Wannted to check what symptoms people experienced before getting the diff problems.
Mine is making a droning loud road noise that sounds like a wheel bearing beginning to fail but i'm not so sure.
It doesnt make the noise all the time or at any set speed just comes on sometimes during the journey.
It's fairly loud when it happens but its happening more frequently now.
Help!

Snap!!

Funnily enough I 've got exactly the same on my 2008 FL2 today.

My noise sounds like excessive road or tyre noise - I run Cooper Zeon LTZ which are pretty noisy normally but this is above that.

It is definitely related to the drivetrain and comes in at about 20mph - have not tried weaving the car to diagnose side - maybe tomorrow.
First thought was a wheel bearing so I jacked the car and checked each wheel for play but nothing excessive found.

The noise is not a whine - as most have described the rear diff - and I'm convinced its front end - I can feel a bit of vibration through the accelerator pedal - but maybe I'm just getting paranoid!

Next step would appear to be a trip to the dealers to diagnose - unless anyone knows a decent indy in Central Scotland. So far the car has only needed discs pads and tyres so have just had servicing done at Main Dealer so I have not needed an indy repairer yet.

Any advice from the clever ones?

TIA Of course I will keep the mods subtle - don't I always!!

Chances are you wont pick the noise up by just jacking the car up and spinning the wheel as theres no load on the wheel.
If you do the above and grab hold of the coil spring whilst spinning the wheel you should be able to pick a slight vibration on the side with the Censored bearing Thumbs Up
