engine number location !!!!

hello all

I am trying to locate the engine serial number, I know where it is, however, I unable to see it no matter how hard I try, without removing the starter motor, which I believe it may be behind. is there any way to read it without having to strip take the starter motor out? Thanks John

There is another way...
Remove the front tow eye cover, shine a torch through the tow eye up to the bottom of the block and you'll see it. No need for an inspection mirror.
