value?

just pondering, certainly not getting the rusty cheque book out.

new fl2 top spec 36k ish
new RRS 51k ish

According to auto express prices at 36k you could buy most models of car in the country maybe not top range, at 51k you can pretty much buy any non sports car you wish (sort of)
Certainly you can walk into a VW showroom with 50k and buy any car there, except the top Tourag but I think with a haggle you'd get that too. I reckon a RRS would hold its value way better than a tourag anyway.

Is 40 - 50k too much to spend on a car? then thinking about it a Golf GTi now costs over 25k.

with finance 50k is affordable to many people, most just have the sense not to do that, there are many things more important than a posh car.

I know it depends on ' disposable income' but there are many other ways of 'disposing' of it

Seems as though someone's got an itch Whistle leaning towards VW also Shocked
My feelings if you are thinking about another Freelander, do it now, that way when the replacement comes out in 2015/2016 or whatever, give it a year to iron out the glitches and you will be thinking of replacement again.
RRS, can't really comment not my cup of tea, but prices will fall a bit with the new model out, but is it what you really want Question

Me, I'm running what I have till the warranty is out, perhaps another year on extended warranty, that puts me to the end of 2016, then decide the next move. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

To be honest CG, the new RRS really has great reviews and looks the part too! As for cost, yes it's loads of money but only £15k more than the Freelander and you get so much more.
It's got to be the RRS mate. Thumbs Up

If you want something and can afford it without risking too much then go for it.
Personally I would be waiting for the new freelander replacement before I spent that amount of cash.

If you can afford it then go for it, I don't mind paying a bit more for my chicken Laughing

It's a nice looking motor a bit more worthy of the Sport name.

I've never really liked the Sport, I'm a Discovery man. That's just my own opinion Thumbs Up 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

I just cant see me spending that much on a car, its only a car after all, such expenses should be avoided until everything else is sorted,

Money for rainy days, kids future, nice holidays, life insurance should come first, anyone who puts a car before those things is quite foolish.

a nice used new shape RRS in a years time maybe.

this thread is more of a discussion about how much people like to spend on motoring rather than me buying one

Ive managed to avoid finance on last two cars, but am now thinking finance isnt all bad At work

Have you met my kids?
Ungrateful, spoilt brats the pair of them, trying to spend thier inheritance before I die. Laughing

Both pensions gone belly up, so no chance of retirement here. Evil or Very Mad
Stuff life insurance, they don't put pockets in shrouds.

If you can afford the repayments why not go for it, none of us has a crystal ball (the Doctor excepted) it would be a shame if you were several years into saving for your dream car, never driving it, dropping dead (like my old man) and having your wifes new partner reap the benefit of all your hard labours.

Don't get me wrong, Mums new bloke is great for her, and gets on well with the rest of the family, I can't help thinking of all the wasted time my old man spent, saving for his dream.

Anyway CG, why not a Disco? I know that's what I will be getting if the lottery numbers come up Very Happy Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Mrs G says they look like a bread van, wont even consider one.

Anyway the seven seats mean we'd end up the local taxi to kids parties, footy practice etc, dont like my own kids wrecking my cars never mind some other scallywags.

back to the tourag, my mate just got a new job and is temporarily driving his bosses new motor, he even picked it up from the show room. A top range tourag, all bells whistles, very nice but its not a patch on even my RRS at the end of the day.

Also he went to collect his caravan last week to park outside my house Evil or Very Mad ( Mrs G's birthday party in pub. house full of guests/relatives so he was to stay in his van) happily his elderly van wouldnt fit the tourag electrics Laughing

basically I spent my RRS fund on the wifes party, including the micheal bubble impersonator Evil or Very Mad

your right though life is short, but buying a posh car isnt the fast route to happiness, its just a temporary morale boost At work

The discovery is the route to happiness, especially the commercial version, you can get a nice mattress in the back.

Sorry slipped into one of my fantasies again. Laughing

Joking aside, live for today, my old man got bowel cancer in his forties, luckily he survived but we found out he carries the gene and there is a strong chance myself or my brother will get it.

The Freelander is a great car but would you miss the Sport if you went back to one? 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

Surely if you can afford a £50K car then a room at the travel lodge is comfier than the back of a van?

Even a Land Rover van Whistle

Unfortunately CG my wife agrees, the Disco is too "ugly", then again this is a woman who likes the look of the Nissan Juke! and the Evoke Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
