After Market Mud Flaps Problems

I fitted after market mud flaps front and rear a couple of weeks ago. Went out to the car the other day and both the rear mud flaps were on the floor having broken off from around the retaining screws. First I thought that someone had pulled them off and left them on the ground. It seems that the plastic they are made of is kinda brittle and the week spot is around the retaining screw holes so maybe they just broke at the weakest point.

Any way bought another set of rears and just fitted them. However I noticed that one of the front flaps has broken away from one of the retaining screw holes, again I suspect that the flap is brittle. If they go again I will definitely invest in a genuine set of LR mud flaps.

Anyone have any issues with their after market mud flaps

Where did you get them from? I bought mine from powerfuluk and fitted them in June. I have had no issues with them at all. Confused

I have the powerfull UK rears and the same happened to mine. They are crap!

I have plastic welded the mounting tabs back on and re-mounted the mudflaps. Along with another modification to the mudflaps, they are now mounted better and more secure than before. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Did you fit the spring clips which hold the mudflap to the wheel arch?

If you omitted these, the constant flexing will have caused the rubber to tear at the screw points. garioch43

You are correct Garioch43, seems like the spring clips were not in properly and have come away with the mud flap. But there is still the qestion why one of the front muflaps has split across the retaining hole. Will order another set of flaps and make sure the spring clips are in firmly.
