Rip Off is a bit strong, expensive yes, what they have is a very good product, which at the moment is going from strength to strength, so let's not knock it, a lot of that profit is being invested, that has to be good for JLR and for the UK.

Evil or Very Mad
Part of the UK Automotive sector gets criticised for making a profit?
Shall we therefore go back to the bad old days to when the whole of the Country had to bail out large parts of the UK Automotive Industry?
How about Red Robbo back with a few strikes thrown in Evil or Very Mad

Any idea how much to develop a new car?
Well, going back a few years, the Fiesta was dubbed 'The Billion Dollar Baby'. Which was it's development cost.

"New car prices are a rip off"

There are deals to be done if you do the legwork.
A few weeks ago I emailed five Ford dealerships telling them I would be buying a new car that weekend. I said what model, engine, colour and spec and told them to reply with their best price. I made it clear I wasn't going to negotiate, enter into deal conversations or mess them about. Two dealers replied with reduced prices, and that Saturday I bought a new Fiesta with 」3k off list price spec'd with 」2k worth of extras (body kit, privacy glass, uprated alloys, stereo and spare wheel kit).

It just so happened the dealership had this new car at their pound awaiting prep for the showroom, so they were happy, wife is very happy and I saved 」3k, before the extras.

We are probably paying 」4-5000 over the top for Freelanders. When you compare the rivals they are all much cheaper. Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

But are they really rivals? I'd always fancied a Yeti but they used not to have a diesel automatic. Now they do, we went along to Carrs at Indian Queens to have a look. They look good, well built but with questionable paint finish apparently. They're far too small in the back for us - and the sales person on duty totally ignored us!

Had a look at an X-Trail yesterday - not a patch on the FL2.

I'd still swap for a LWB Shogun or a Range Rover Vogue but prices and fuel consumption aren't as appealing. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto
Tricia's - 2006 Royal Blue Beetle Cabriolet Auto
Mine - 2014 Vespa GTS 300 Super Sport Matt Black
Ours - 2007 White Bailey Pageant Champagne

All the rivals are pretty poor in comparison, the FL2 ain't perfect but it's a damn site better than many and the sales figures, coupled with demand outstripping supply, would suggest the price point is fine.

True - the FL2 is not perfect, and neither is the dealer network. Much work to be done in both.
However, if you are happy with your Freelander don't go and drive the new RRS. The other week I did for a whole day in these alps with a petrol version from dawn till dusk with only a short break for Mother Nature and a snack - simply divine, despite there being some very cheap n tacky trim panels on board that HSE Sad

However, much joy was had - so much so that I'm having a much longer engagement, but this time with a diesel RRS at the end of November. Will it turn out to be just another affair or, a marriage in heaven Rolling Eyes

Hang the expense and those Telewag Jurnos.

The one I drove was in Chile with black interior - did not like either.

Scotia Grey body looks good in the flesh, but the interior colour options are not to my liking. No idea as yet what the next test car colour will be - will only know the day before, but I have requested anything but a black interior.

Will let you know how the drives went and if daughter hangs around I'll get her to take some pics for you.
