Goodyear Wrangler M&S - Depth advice

Afternoon all,

I know this is a topic thats been done to death, I have tried searching but found no definitive answer, but rest assured its not a winter tyre advice question!

I've currently got Wrangler M&S all round, fronts are 3-4mm, rears around 5mm. I know I've seen that 4mm is a minimum tread depth in winter for some countries but can anyone offer any friendly advice for me about whether its worth changing early on just over 3mm in the UK?

Clearly, i'd only need two new tyres, on the back, rears moved to the front. I've looked on Black Circles and they only seem to do the A/W, so will have a nosey round if thats the case.

Thanks

I would not wish to go below 4mm in bad weather - particularly snow. Also the Goodyears seem to get quite noisy at about 4mm. I was in a similar situation to you a couple of years ago - my ideal solution would be to look for a spare set of wheels, preferably with new or at least good tyres, then get a set of winter tyres fitted to the current wheels (or to whichever four are the most worn). If you don't already have a spare another option would be to look for one matching wheel with dodgy tyre, fit 4 new tyres and keep the best of the old ones as a spare.
There are usually quite a lot of wheels around for sale, although it gets complicated now there are so many different patterns of wheel available. Quite a few people have found it's cheaper to buy a set of wheels with new tyres rather than just a set of tyres! Ex AA Series III LWB Safari - Gone

Unable to order a new DS, so gave up. Now have a Volvo S90 Recharge.

Wait till we know when the fluffy stuff is going to fall, anything like last year you won't need to worry.

The first time I drove my FL2 in snow my wranglers were all 3mm. My car was all over the place. The snow only lasted a couple of days but I didn't feel safe driving. I got 4 new General Grabbers At's and I was amazed the next time it snowed how different the car was. Next time my tyres are down to 4mm I will be changing them. Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.

I had Wranglers at 4mm on mine and decided to change to General Grabber GT's. The difference is staggering. Mine were the original tyres (7 years old) and had presumably hardened with age. They were also fairly noisy as a previous post has mentioned. After having a near miss with my FL2, I would strongly recommend changing them if you have any doubts. Once a 2 tonne FL2 is in a slide I found it virtually impossible to correct. If you fancy an alternative to the Wranglers, the Grabber GT's are excellent.
