Thanks for the reply Mike. Sun and age can do that but why does it happen to LR only?? Jap cars go forever without being advertised as tested in the most extreme conditions! This is just ridiculous. At the same time, my "leather" interior is not really leather as it is cracking and breaking (arm rests) and the trims on the gear and the handbreak is just disintegrating. Did you have the same issues too? |

It's not just LR just about all cars have it, in the early days of airbags there was a separate panel in the dash that blew off, I assume thus caused injuries and was discontinued, the new dashes are cheaper to make and the manufacturer is not bothered about repair costs of fitting a new dash my PC is slightly to the right of Genghis

I noticed the outline starting to show on the dash of my last FL2 as it got older so I always applied very little pressure to that area when cleaning and it didn't get any worse. It was over 8 years old when I part ex'd it and it hardly showed. 1982 RR Classic-converted to 200TDi-gone

Had similar on mine ('57) and, last summer, it developed a 6" fore and aft split in the dash right in the centre of the airbag area. (Someone else here experienced similar). Took it up with LR via my local LR garage - possible warranty? … LR declined warranty responsibility as well as any 'manufacturing defect' claim, but did actually make a contribution of 50% of the cost of replacing the whole dashboard. Still cost me an arm and a leg but sorted. |

Thanks Crockett. It seems like the @disease@ is spreading to the rest of my dashboard. It is now cracked over the instrument panel right in front of me. It is ridiculous that this is happening. I will take it up with the local LR dealer. I hope they are reasonable enough whereby we come to a mutual agreement for the replacement. There are so many design and manufacturing flaws in this car it is just not even funny. I have just yesterday bought the parts to replace the gear knob and gaiter as well as the gaiter for the handbrake. The keyfobs are next as they have nearly cracked open. |
