I am getting my new freelander next week and before September will be re shoeing it.

What sizes can i use.

I see you can get the AT in 17 inch but also that in 245/70/17 you can get the BFG Muds and the Cooper STT

Has anyone fitted these, id rather something more robust than the AT as i have BFG AT at the moment and dont want to downgrade in ability

I have fitted 235/65/R17 Goodyear Wrangler MTRs. I only use them for offroad trips as I have other tires for the tarmac. But in offroad (mud, wet, etc) they are great!

Standard size is 235/65/17.

Ive not seen the Goodyear MTR anywhere. Where did you get yours please?

The 245/70 would add 1.5 inches to the diameter so not sure if that would be a goer, vertainly more choice available.

I got them from a dealer in Romania, so I think this would not be an option for you . But they should be available also elsewhere - Goodyear has this dimension in production as far as I know.

They dotn do them in this country unfortunately

How can no tyre manufacturers do a good tyre in the most frequent wheel size of a freelander?

My wife probably uses the Freelander, off road more than me. It happily negotiates tracks with rutted mud, up to the wheelnuts when she is moving the dogs around for retrieving on shoots. It has pulled the caravan onto and off, several muddy show sites, when tractors were assisting the less capable cars. In the winter, we saw a couple with a Sorrento 2WD trying to get a caravan up a sheet ice slope, on a tarmac yard. We offered to help, and after unhitching the disgraced Kia, we put the Freelander on it, and after selecting ice on the TR control, off it went with just a tiny slip on one rear wheel. The tyres on it are just the 17 inch Wranglers, that it came on. I won't be looking to buy any other type when the time comes. Currently they are 130 pounds a corner locally.

I can gaurentee that she does not take the freelander through wheelnut deep mud on road tyres. I got stuck at the weekend on a track that my shogun sport on BFG all terrains never even gave a second thought!

If a picker up get stuck thats a pain in the arse but if i get stuck i have 8 very upset people behind me who are paying big money for me to take them round and that doesnt include having to tow me out!

probably need a Disco then

get some 16" alloys .. often on ebay, the offroad tyres are more plentiful in that size At work

did I see a guy with the Grabber AT's on youtube fitting them to 18's?

Pirelli Scorpion ATR are a straight swap, and are good offroad ( but obviously not as aggressive as a mud terrain) and as a plus they also drive quietly on the road and handle nicely. the seller for me me was a nice heavy rim protection bead to protect the alloys. 2009 GS Auto Zermatt Silver - Sold June 21 after 10 years of ownership

Do they need the spacers or would they be ok on a normal set up?

Ideally thats what I will go for but I dont want to do it and then need to faff about with other mods as it is an Estate Vehicle rather than my own
