If they want to ride in packs, they should use a track like cars. The Highway Code is very specific about how cyclists should behave on the road, they never bother with that though, the Highway Code is only for car drivers!

As a (recently ex) Londoner I've always noticed that white vans will look out for each other and let each other out. When I swapped my white van for a Landy I was surprised to find I was still part of the set - Landy drivers seem to be regarded as "professionals" deserving the same treatment. Now I'm out here in the country it's a bit of a culture shock - we don't have that many white vans, but there seem to be two types of drivers. There are the ones who shy at every side road and stop for a long think at every junction, whether they have right of way or not, and the others who drive a few feet from your back end at 60 mph and then overtake as soon as they get the chance. And as for letting you out of a side turning, or stopping to let a large vehicle past a parked car - well forget it. Maybe it's just Fenland, and I suppose I'll get used to it... |

In the U.S., where the FL2 is on the small side as trucks/SUVs go, you don't get many odd looks from anyone. But the one thing I noticed when I switched from a VW car to an LR SUV, was that the whimpy types in electric cars like the Prius get their panties in a bunch and are very rude on the road. Many like to try and beat you to the other side of a red light and get in front of you.

I have to say, I totally disagree with English Yoemans thoughts on this.

Hi there, not a FL 2 owner at the moment , I will be collecting it next week so the driving experience will be interesting. Over the last 10 years though I have driven 2x Discovery 1s both modified for off roading, tall MT tyres winch bumpers and rock sliders so yes they do look aggressive, I was the Chief Marshal for an off road club and yes they were off roaded on a regular basis. I can;t remember anyone giving me any hassle or not letting me out and such like. What I always like to do though is , If I ever came up to a 50/50 situation I would always let the other guy go first, the looks of surprise were wonderful.

The one form of discrimination I have noticed is parking wardens. I've twice been given tickets in London where my car was the only one in the row to get a ticket. You can just hear them thinking "Rich bastard, I'll give him a ticket". Not so much a Land Rover thing as owning an expensive looking car, I suspect. |
