Local fitter suggested 235x65x17 108H Wranglers. His logic was that with poor road conditions (pot holes) in and around Gloucestershire the higher loading factor might be the way to go. The H speed rating is still about 40mph faster than I will ever go.

Any thoughts????

My Mitchelin Cross are 108H if that helps the tyre place never said anything.

Ditto my GG ATs. 108H should be fine.

Land Rover Official Tyre Guide states 104V is the approved load and speed rating for Goodyear Wrangler 235/65/17/

V rated standard fit no insurance issues
H rated don't forget to inform your insurance company because if you are involved in a accident they will reject your claim

Thanks for your comments - I will stick with the 104V's as to date no complaints and barely any price differential.

Just out of interest can anyone confirm the tread depth on new Goodyear Wrangler HP's? just trying to work out how long I have left on my current set. Unfortunately I had to replace a tyre so even the spare is worn.

I know car tyres have 8mm from new but i think 4x4 tyres might have 9mm as it's recommended to change them at 3-4mm even though legal limit is 1.6mm

my 2 fronts are at 3.5mm and i've just bought a pair of part worns with 6mm to help with winter

See on the speed rating front, there seems to be a lot of myth around it, or more to the point, objectivity about what the figures represent. and in the case of the OP, the ratings make little difference - they'll both be fine on a freelander.

The ratings are the max capability of the tyre when run at both the top rated weight and speed rating together at the same time.

H rating - 130mph
V rating - 149mph.

FL2 top speed? 112mph. ( from LR website )

So are you ever going to break the top speed of even the lower rated tyre? Extremely unlikely.

Personally, its the load index rating thats more important as its the rating you are more likely to reach the limit of by towing or overloading the car ... even at slow speeds. So to me, I'd personally chose a higher load, lower speed tyre ( provided the speed is higher than the max speed of the car if you know what I mean )

Which is why I'm happy with 108H GG ATs on my car. Since I seldom exceed 80 never exceed 70 H gives me plenty of spare capacity in the tyre.

not strictly fl2 but Ive just cured a suspected wheel bearing on the RRS. a low rumble at motorway speeds.
The cure take off the wranglers and fit pirelli , the car rides better and much quieter. maybe because the tyres were down to the legal limit, but the rumble has been there for 6mths.

one tyre was actually illegal the LR garage made Mrs G sign a disclaimer before allowing her to drive away I swapped the spare as soon as she got home, brand new tyre with alloy but a wrangler to go with the 3 new pirelli  At work

CG - the rumble with Wranglers is well documented on here. Starts at about 4mm, which is time to think about changing them anyway.
pab et al - I'm not saying you can't run on H rated tyres, and I'm on H rated Wintracs myself at the moment, merely that they are not on LR's approved list for normal (ie not winter, not MT) tyres.
