Self-dimming compass mirror?

On my old Disco 2 I added an auto-dimming rear view mirror with an LCD compass in the top corner of the glass. I originally thought the compass a bit of a gimmick but soon grew to appreciate it and miss it on my FL2.

Has anyone added such a mod? I assume LR don't offer one for the FL2? Searching "compass mirror" here doesn't reveal anything..

Had one of those in a rental car once, and thought it was a bit gimmicky.

However, a few days into the hire I realised how amazingly useful it is.

If I could somehow shoehorn one into the FL I would do so in a heartbeat.

Yes, I could just have the SatNav screen on "compass" setting......but that involves me pressing buttons and stuff.....

How can I get the compass screen onto a 2013MY car? Better still, can I get the altitude?

I know some have swapped from standard to auto dimming and the power was there, but I would know were it could pick up its compass heading unless it was built in already

I THINK that is built into the mirror itself - it's pretty simplistic.

If so it should, in theory, simply be a case of getting a mirror with a compass in it and grafting it into the existing power supply.....

In theory......

The compass facility is deffo built into the mirror - it just needs power. The problem is fixing it to the existing mount.

Gentex are the main suppliers to pretty much all the OEM lines. I can't find anything anywhere about one that will fit a FL Big Cry

Have been looking at the Gentex ones on eBay, and wondering if one was worth a punt.

Especially if the home link system can be programmed to work with my garage doors.......

If you cant read the sun ,nature and moon ,why get a compass mirror?. Audi,Merc,VW,Porsche,BMW and Opel. When it comes to going 4x4 they are all limited.(about 2 inches of snow or mud). Wink

Meanwhile, back in the real world..

I'm wondering if the existing mirror's mount could be re-used? Could a Disco 2 compass mirror (or similar) be fixed to the FL2 metal mounting? Hmm..

Because we're in the UK, and the sun and moon are seldom visible. Steve
