Hi rovertoo if you go to the land rover website click on owners,learn about your land rover,handbooks and manuals, and that will direct you to the owners information site and in there you will find instructions on how to fit a tow bar and it will show you step by step how to remove the bumper hope this helps

Start at the front remove front bumper ,engine,gearbox, bulkhead, seats and so on until all you have left is a rear bumper |

It would be quicker to get someone to hold the rear bumper and remove the car Freelander 2 - SE

Why do the under wheel arch mud guards need removing though?

I found out that you don't need to remove the mud guard, but there are two screws behind it that need to be removed.
