I'm not condoning the actions of the riders by any means, but the camera cuts to a different angle between the last rider crossing and the train arriving so one can't see how close a call this really was.

That is true, many cyclists ignore the Police motor cycle rider who is trying to stop them.
Personally, if this is a race then it should be null and void.

There's a code in cycle road racing, and when something like this happens the peloton slows and waits for the delayed riders to rejoin the group. Apparently that happened after this incident, so those who jumped the barriers actually risked their lives for nothing.

I believe that in France you are not supposed to be on the track so if you get injured/killed then too bad. I can't see why we have to spend money on special security gates to protect people from their own stupidity. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

A few years ago near where I live a level crossing was closed and coned off one night whilst work was going on. Some idiot went around the cones and barriers and discovered that the work consisted of digging out a trench between the tracks for some cables. His front wheels dropped into the trench and he was stranded. Shortly afterwards a train came along and rearranged the front of his vehicle. 3 x FL1 2 manual + 1 auto

I work for Network Rail and it by all accounts it goes on a lot more than gets reported.

There are some very special people out there and it makes you wonder how their village would cope without the resident idiot Banging Head
