Sub Standard 2013 Freelander 2 HSE LUX

I mean sub standard (not to specified standard) in a literal sense not a subjective one.

The Freelander 2 I'm supposed to be taking delivery of on Monday is supposed to be a 13MY HSE LUX first registered early this year (good or bad, an ex LR car). I suddenly realised yesterday, having signed off on the deal the day before that something is missing... The Grand Black Laquer trim. Neither this, or the optional wood trim is fitted to the car even though the Grand Black is supposed to fitted as standard (and was supposed to be at that time).

Obviously I'm going back to the dealer this morning to hammer this out but on checking on the used car locator on the Land Rover web site I can find a couple of supposed HSE's and LUX's that do not have any trim fitted either.

How can this be? Everything else points to the car being an HSE LUX including the exclusive Windsor leather but as 'no trim' was not an option on the car how could it have got out of the factory without any and how can anyone ever be sure it is a real HSE LUX?

Something very odd going on and I will admit to being a little pee'd off that I, someone completely new to the brand have to discover this for myself and the dealer clearly thinks it's acceptable to not mention it and pull the wool over my eyes - not impressed Mad

If it's a used car you buy it sold as seen?

The LR cars will be early models and discrepancies against today's spec may well be encountered, good luck with the dealer and I hope all goes well.

This is quoted from the LR website

I fully appreciate that an unscrupulous dealer could take the attitude with me, knowing that I knew very little of what I was looking at, that I signed the order anyway. Why do you think I'm upset? I'm hoping that the dealer will prove not to be unscrupulous.

I'm not comparing to today's spec. I'm comparing it to the MY13 spec published by LR in 2012 effective for vehicles produced from 24th Sep 2012. Of course a manufacturer has all sorts of clauses to vary the spec of vehicles, but varying spec means the specification across the board, not on a one off vehicle basis. However, hopefully this is all immaterial as the dealer and LR will prove to be honourable.

Yes, it can be easily be refitted, but it would cost you. Have a word with the dealer and see what they can do for you. If not, try Dan @ Duckworths, he's a site sponsor and has very competitive prices. (Got piano black grab handles from him) Thumbs Up

A good dealer would offer to fit this as standard practice for you, just make sure that the rest of the car meets the spec requirements for the HSE Lux. If not someone is pulling a fast one.

As has been mentioned on here put your VIN in to topix and it will tell you exactly what the car should have Thumbs Up 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

It has either got no trim, which I find hard to believe, or the previous owner has changed it for one of the other trims available.
When you say ex LR this term is used very loosely, it may not mean it was used by LR Staff, it could have been a car that LR have loaned out, ie, Royal Household, Enterprise. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Just checked the LR used website and the first 2 HSE Lux cars I came across have no trim. The LR website only says it's an option or upgrade.

EDIT- all cars I checked were 62 reg 13MY, perhaps it was only standard from March ordered cars onwards as all the 13 reg cars have it with only a few 62 reg cars. The price list I have says its standard but it's from March 2013 onwards. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

But if there is no trim, their must be something there, not just holes Question It would have what it comes out of the factory with, the options are just thin covers to clip over the top Question p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

Some interesting speculation here. As I've already said supporting literature from the absolutely correct time for the earliest MY13 cars makes it crystal clear the car should have the grand black lacquer trim as standard and an absolute minimum with the wood as a cost option. No trim was not and is not an option. However as others have observed those with no trim have the base glove box lid etc. and the trim is not simply replaceable on it. In any event the Grand Black lacquer trim is fitted to the glove box, instrument panel, steering wheel and door handles when fitted.

Anyway, I'm back from my dealers and they're treating this problem in an exemplary fashion. They checked the build sheet of the car and confirmed it should have the black lacquer trim. They also thoroughly checked the car to make sure it is absolutely a My13 car and it is. Consequently they're going to put the situation right and make sure the correct trim is fitted. I am still collecting it on Monday and they will get it back in as soon as they have all the right parts etc.

It seems that the same problem has been happening with some new Discoveries too where they're specified with the black trim and delivered without it.

Interesting problem though and I am still curious as to how it could arise with no trim not even being an option. Do you suppose they just run out on the production line and then decide to use whatever they can?

Thanks for all the support and observations Very Happy

No, it doesn't quite work like that.

Glad your Dealer is sorting it for you...it's not Silver with an OE, OV or OY registration prefix by any chance is it? Foraging near Gaydon....
