I imagine that because it's a specific market requirement, LR Japan had access to items at their local Halfords that could do the job rather than adding additional manufacturing complexity to Halewood.

Why isn't it built at Solihull? Spare capacity at Halewood probably. Worth noting that when Freelander was launched (2006) X-Type was still in production there - but only in a small volume given the capacity of the facility

Not any more, working 3 shifts building FL2's, Evokes and if rumours are true the new 7 seat FL2.
