They would promise everything now. The problem is what they will do after they aquire Land Rover and Jaguar.
I understood that at least Land Rover was doing well and that Jaguar is not doing so bad lately. I cannot understand why Ford is selling them. I also understand that Ford has also plans to sell Volvo.
Sad

Ford is selling LR & Jag off because the've lost billions of $ recently and are selling off the profitable bits of the business. LR has never been so profitable as it is now. 08 Santorini Black HSE manual with DAB and privacy glass

Presumably if old Queenie fancied she could tuck into a bit of swan pie as she owns them all. Bet you she's considered it Wink 08 Santorini Black HSE manual with DAB and privacy glass

Tata Motors to seal Jaguar-Rover deal.
2008-03-25 00:18:32
The D-day is inching closer for Tata Motors. According to sources close to the development, India’s largest commercial vehicle company is likely to ink the Jaguar-Land Rover deal with Ford on March 26. Ford is scheduled to make the announcement on engines, pensions and other long-term agreements on that day, the sources said, adding that completion of the agreement, however, is scheduled to take two to three months as it is bound by regulatory approvals. However, since Jaguar and Land Rover workers are on an extended Easter holiday, the announcement on the agreement would be made only on Wednesday. A Tata Motor spokesperson said discussions are still going on and refused to put a date on the announcement. Tata Motors chairman Ratan Tata will lead the Tata delegation and Lewis Booth, exe

This is great news for LR. At last they will have owners who know how to run a business. Tata will let the local management get on with running the company and have committed to a 5 year plan. How many businesses get that opportunity these days? Land Rover's destiny is now in their own hands and I can't wait to see how it goes with products like the LRX on the horizon.

I also would not be concerned about the loss of American ownership. In my experience, Ford has demonstrated a typical American reaction for dealing with problems in their own back yard - ditch the foreign elements parts of their business (ie British) and use the proceeds to prop up an ailing organisation.

Good luck Land Rover, here's to a great future.

Well now we know. Ive got very mixed feelings as I think that LR has really moved on under Fords stewardship.
I just hope that TATA realise what an icon they have taken on (the same must be said for Jaguar too) and treat the marques with the respect and investment they deserve.
Most importantly they had better treat the guys who design and build the jolly things with some respect, because without them the company would be nothing.

Good luck guys with your new bosses.

It will be interesting to see how long it is before Tata open a CKD assembly operation for Land Rovers and Jaguars in India to get round the huge import taxes that the Indian Government has on imported cars. I think only Toyota has so far opened a factory there to allow sales of their vehicles in the country.
Land Rover already has plants building cars from CKD kits in South Africa and Thailand. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?

Been listening to the BBC world service,

They had a big discussion about it,

In the short term production will stay in the UK.

hope they can keep it a prestige brand like the other european car manufacturers.

Tata want to keep the two marques as upmarket brands - it gives them a foothold in markets where their own brand cannot hope to compete. Tata cars are available in the UK but they are so awful that nobody buys them. How can carbon have a footprint, it has no feet?
