I used LRA a couple of years ago with a flat battery, he also told me, never leave it unlocked, there are many modules on standby waiting for a command, always lock it so the various modules shut down. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior

I'm with 'pab' and 'mav' on this one, irrespective of whether locked single, double or left unlocked the drain is the same after a short period of time, 12 minutes against 35 minutes if lights are off and doors are shut.

After either of these times shutdown of all modules occur and there is a draw of approx 1 amp every 2 days on the battery, so if your battery is in good nick it will easily last until a period of inactivity and into deep sleep.

If anyone has found different to the proper procedure then you have a problem with correct shutdown/modules on your car, I have also left my car at an airport for two weeks and it opened and started no problem.

United Kingdom 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Lago Grey

Pab, I read what you say, but my Freelander battery went flat after 5 days unlocked in a locked garage. The mechanic who attended and started the car said this was common with most modern cars since, if not locked, there are certain items still on standby.

It's not what I say, it's what Land Rover say - the information I quoted comes straight from the Topix workshop manual!

If the battery was flat after 5 days it suggests that the shutdown didn't work correctly for some reason. There are reports elsewhere on here of the bluetooth module causing problems and draining the battery even when the car was properly locked, so the locking or lack of it may not be related.

The sleep mode isn't documented in the workshop manual (not that I've found anyway) but there is sufficient evidence that it happens. What's not clear is whether there is a time element or whether it's solely voltage related. Some people seem to report no problems after more than 28 days, which might suggest it's voltage only, but since I don't want to be without the car for months at a time it's not something I can really test!

Vehicles can run the battery down very quick, one of my boys fitted an ipod lead to the back of his radio in a BMW Mini, it would then not let the electrics shut down, he would have a dead battery in six to seven hours. p****d off with a Digital Keyboard Warrior
