Pas Filter

Right here goes, fed up of my pas filter blocking up so I have come up with this idea Confused acquired 3 filters of different size, 15mm, 22mm,28mm, two are brass and one is stainless.

Thinking of slipping the 22 or 28mm filter over the existing filter or some how remove the existing filter and use just the new brass/stainless filter, this can then be removed with long nosed pliers and cleaned out every couple of months or what ever.

I would appreciate your opinions guys BEFORE i fit it Thumbs Up

Think i'd be more concerned as to where the sludge is coming from and get to the root of the problem Thumbs Up . Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I recently changed my PAS fluid and resevoir and found the filter to be in the same condition. I just thought I'd update this thread as its been theorised that the reason the top of the filter is dirty is because the dirty oil is floating on top of the resevoir before being sucked into the filter, I also thought this was the case but it isn't.

The centre filtered pipe is actually the return pipe, the larger outer pipe sucks the fluid down into the system and its returned up through the filter, which stops any debris from getting back into the resevoir. I guess it has to be like this to cover the situation where the filter gets blocked and causes oil starvation.

Result !!!

Good news for a change, your all aware of my on going pas filter blocking problem, well its blocking again Sad So I phoned LR Customer Services last week and explained what I have done the past 12 months trying to flush the system, and so on.

Ok they said, we will open a case for you, send us your service history and any thing that will help your case. I photographed all 6 service bills, 3 from LR and 3 independent garages,I sent photo's of the blocked filters, receipts for the reservoirs and pas fluid, total cost around £100 over the past year, not bad and worth a try I suppose.

Anyway, LR phoned me yesterday and said they will cover 50% of the bill, Very Happy car is now booked in and I have to pay £650 for a new rack and fluid etc, not bad eh,for a car that is now 6 years old covered 45k miles and in superb condition.

Fair play to LR. 2014 Audi A4 Avant - Dont like it !

I have changed two of these for two different freelies. The problem was noisy power steering system and permanent loss of power steering when driving. Problems gone when changed the bottle and flushed all system with new fluid.

That is exactly how my first Resevoir filter looked, 50% blocked with black debris.I have never removed any pieces of metal or swarf, its always been very very fine particles. I even lowered a magnet into the resevoir to see if any metal particles would attach, no luck. Hope yours is cured for good. 2014 Audi A4 Avant - Dont like it !

Although I didn't have heavy steering I have just replaced the reservoir on my FL2, see image attached, if the black stuff isn't metallic then could it be rubber/neoprene from a seal somwhere?

Marked for revisit due to my power steering going stiff after a loss of fluid, which I think maybe because of a leak, but will most certainly be changing the reservoir once I have located the leak.
