UK - Personal Number Plates Value

Hi
I am thinking about buying some personal number plates as I have heard they increase approx 15% in value per year, does anyone have any knowledge of this, is this value a fair one or over the top?
Thanks in advance.

I have never heard that Confused

The only thing I have heard when people want to sell plates they have bought is they lost money, they either don't sell as the personal thing the plate represents doesn't mean anything to anyone else, apart from those whose initials they represent, so few and fair between

or they get contact buy registration sales companies who pay peanuts and sell them with 2 or 3 extra zeros on the end

the only person i know who could have made money is Tim, FA57 RRS was bought for something like £300 off the DVLA before they realised FA57 spelt FAST and he was offered something like £10K by a bloke who owned a Ford Focus RS, but he didn't sell it Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

if you like it buy it, don't buy it as an investment though Thumbs Up

I always wanted my initials, NJP born of the 5th so 5 NJP was what i found but at £5k i thought not a chance and nothing else quite fits the bill Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

A11 EEX was mine. Bought for £200 sold or £800 15 years later. I was quoted £3,000 but surprise surprise no buyers at that price... 2 years later I had that offer but I had already sold it Evil or Very Mad

It's only worth whatever someone is prepared to pay for it and even then it may take some time to sell.

Hi Mr K!

I bought 3 cherished number plates roughly 10 years ago, one for me and the others for my brothers. None of them have gone up or down in value as far as I know.

Prefix style number plates are still available direct through the DVLA website and other plates which are similar to mine are still selling at exactly the same price as what I bought mine for.

As stated previously a number plate is only worth as much as what someone else is willing to pay for it, but I wouldn't agree that general plates go up 15% each year unless they are really rare/special.

Hope that helps Thumbs Up

Saw ORG45M on an Aston Vanquish a while ago. Not sure I would want that plate on when visiting the mother in law ! _________________
