Daddy Long Legs

Never seen so many of the ruddy things as this year. Can't leave a window open or outside light on or else they're in the house like a shot. Spiders seem to like 'em though.

Also noticed hardly any wasps this year.
Is it the same where you live?

Being a country boy, I always put perceived changes in the number of insets down to the weather; ie, long hard winter followed by a decent summer. Hardly scientific I know.
So what's the real reason? Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

Same here... leave a window open and in come the DLLs, also moths - some huuuuge and fast.
Fewer wasps, but more butterflies.
Can't offer an explanation for variation... but I'd say extent / depth of winter has a big effect.

Plenty of bees, nice for pollinating stuff. Cheerful, bumble bees are. Wasps, I hate 'em... Evil or Very Mad ...

Wasp mania here and a fair few DLL's and moths. We have a bat in the area that feasts on moths etc so that keeps the numbers down. The moths gather when the security light comes on and bingo! Dinner time for Mr Bat Laughing LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

United Kingdom 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Ipanema Sand

Had a new lawn laid 3 years ago. Second spring and it started to brown and die, then every day another few inches of grass died until I realised something was eating it. I dug up a spades width and found (what I now know to be) about 50 leatherjackets. I nuked them with copious amounts of a now discontinued leatherjacket poison, and the grass recovered.
I now nuke them in March and September with my secret chemical weapon stockpile. The rumour is that Putin wants me to hand it all over but I like my lawn too much.
If you see loads of DDL's skipping over your lawn in the early evening beware ! _________________
