The new Doctor to be revealed

Live on Sunday night, the bookies expect Peter Capaldi to be named as the new Doctor. That will be weird being as he played a bloke in a 2008 episode in Pompeii with David Tennant at the helm.

Then again, the bookies had Russell Tovey as favourite to succeed Tennant when the relatively unknown Matt Smith got it. Sad to see Matt go as he's been brilliant but the show must go on LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Some one mentioned the Tardis would turn in to the 'Swear Box' he he.

I have to say I'm a bit sad they are announcing it - should be left to the special.

Matt Smith has been up there with the best of them. Each actor brings his own thing to the role and Matt plays a silly almost childish Doctor which makes it very impressive when he switches to serious and determined. He's been great and will be missed.

Brilliant scene and great acting here no question:  LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Peter Capaldi - who's he? Never heard of the guy but if the previous texts are accurate it seems like the BBC's running true to form - let's offend as many folk as possible and call it entertainment. I so hope you've got it wrong. Ours - 2008 Stornoway Grey HSE Auto

uh? Do you not get telly in Cornwall?

I'm an admirer of Capaldi & I'll be willing to bet that no-one will be offended... unless you get the 'professional offendee' brigade, determined to whinge about the merest thing... ...

I've never heard of Capaldi either, but based on the comments in this thread he sounds a dubious choice for what is basically a kids' TV programme!
