Nuber plate value?

Just had an offer for mine from one of those number plate selling companies and they offered £1000 only, so I wonder what the true value is? My plate is B3 DOG. Not that it is up for sale. Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

Go onto a cherished numberplate dealer site and type in DOG in their search box and similar numbers will come up with prices, will give you some idea what they are selling them for.

there arn't any similar number plates to do a comparison with. B registrations with a single number and three letters making up a name just arnt there.

Nearest I can find is P3 DOG =£1925
B167DOG =£1480

So going by that all I can estimate is B3 DOG in the region of £2000 to £2500 or more Ex 2010 Freelander2 GS-e Diesel manual Silver owner

Don't always work that way if you search DOG on plate sites, I can search my plate and be one letter or number different and its 1000s more in price

L88 DOR £1200
L88 TTR £5895

The other thing to remember when looking too is if the dealer owns the plate as part of his own stock, it will have to have VAT added to the price, where as if they are selling the same plate on behalf of a customer who owns it it wont have VAT added thats why the same number or very near number can be 20% more in some cases, thats where the variance occurs.

Another can be its rarity such as a number that was only issued in one format, eg AB 1234 wasnt reversed as 1234 AB as some plates are so theres only half the number of plates of that type available to start with.

Another can be its popularity in terms of initials JG 12 will always fetch a lot more than JX 12 unless maybe your name happens to be Jing Xong

Another is plates that read a name JEF or SUE will always attract a premium but sometimes names go out of fashion like GAY, it doesnt mean today what it used to, DOG 1 might be associated with Dogging these days, some might consider that an bonus and others will shy away from it, so you have to be careful how you invest.

My dog is willing to offer you a fair price. She's always wanted a personalised dog basket. ...
