Key fob stuck in with flat battery

Had an interesting little episode last night.
I borrowed a trailer and found the lights were faulty (aren't they all!)
I spent a while tracing the fault with the trailer lights hooked-up and the ignition on. Mrs Duck was sat in the car reading and switching various lights on and off on demand while I was round the back doing the technical stuff. I must admit, I did have a couple of distractions so it took longer than expected, but just as we came to do the final check, I'm getting nothing happening at the back in demand to my requests. Went to see what Mrs Duck was playing at and I found the battery had gone flat. Crying or Very sad

Oops! - Was the initial response. Then I discovered a problem:
The key fob was still in the dash and there wasn't enough power to drive the motor to unlatch it.
So the car's sat there with the doors unlocked and the key in the ignition and I had no way of getting it out.
Had to get an extension lead & battery charger out to get some juice in but it seemed that there was too much current draw to allow it to charge sufficiently to get the key out! Big Cry

Ended-up having to get Mrs Ducks High-and Dry and a set of jump leads so I could start the Freelander, get some charge in and then safely remove the key. It would appear that Mrs Duck had knocked the windscreen wipers on at some point and they were still switched on, and not quite at the parked position, drawing all the current from the battery charger.

A weird chain of events, but it highlighted the fact that the key CAN get stuck-in with no way of easily removing it.

Hi,

Well happened to us the other day (see my post/reply on flat battery thread). The key also appeared to be stuck, but with a swift tug (really not too brutal!) it came out OK, with no ill effects! Kola is the big solid black German Shepherd, Dobbie is.......a breed you've never heard of......yet;)
