Door Handle skins

I've tried the search function but can't find what I want. Does anyone have any tips for removing the small part of the door handle when fitting replacement skins? I've read somewhere that it is easy to break the lugs when removing the existing skins, and would like to keep the originals in case I want to change back in the future.

Thanks for the reply Wiz, but that's the complete handle replacement. I'm just replacing the skins.

No Pinks, you are confusing these with handle Covers. What I have is replacement Skins. The "skin" is the top part of a 2 part handle assembly. The larger section comes off quite easily, but the smaller part has lugs which tend to snap off when removal is attempted. Hence my request for help.

Thanks Chris, I am aware of the Powerful ones, but these have been custom painted. (I have them already) Before taking the grey ones off, I am trying to get help with the best technique for removing the smaller sections without breaking off the tabs.

Thanks J77, I've seen this. Its the same as the video provided by Powerful UK on youtube for their product. They simply say "pull the other parts off" - and that's where I'm stuck. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and give them a good tug. I was hoping an "expert" would come to my aid with a secret trick to pull them off without snapping the lugs. Yes, they are exactly the same. However, if you watch the video you will see that they only actually remove the large part of the handle. They then say "to remove the other part, you just have to pull hard and they come off". The reason they don't actually show it is that when you "pull hard" you break off the lugs. I'm with you now.

My D3 had to get its two passenger doors sprayed, as someone keyed it and the dealer mentioned something about part of the door handle being replaced as it just breaks when pulled off, I assume this must be it as they took the door handles off before painting. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
