Upgrading stereo system for GS model?

I'm new on this forum but it looks like a good place to get my questions answered. I have a GS and would very much like to change the stereo in it as its pretty poor, or upgrade. Is there anyone as you know who can upgrade, or add more speakers or is it true that you have to 'deal with it', which i think is a bit lame. [/b]

You should be able to upgrade to a 6 CD Radio/Cassette, but identical in all other respects to your present one, but not upgrade as in to a better unit. This is because the radio/CD acts as link between Cambus functions and to put something inappropriate in would screw it up.

What year is your car?

I have the MY10 GS and the stereo is excellent. Fair enough its not 6CD but its the Alpine system and has the ipod connection, bluetooth and subwoofer in the boot.

I just assumed this has always been standard on GS LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

Take the land rover one out and get a double din pioneer with built in sat nav! Alot better than the land rover one, and you can play DVDs and really good iPod/iPhone connectivity! I think they may even have Bluetooth built in too!

If you just want better sound I would suggest you replace the factory speakers however if you want to do it right you will need to install a line out converter (around $120) which intercepts the speaker cable then outputs that signal into a better quality amplifier.... Then the skies the limit with how good you want it to sound.

I'm doing this to my car now.... Very exciting.... 2011 FL2 HSE SD4

I recently had the Alpine INA W910R fitted with front and rear cameras.

It's the dog's but a bit of pain to fit as they had to keep the original equipment and put it in the boot (very discretely!) due to fibre optic pass-through for the parking sensors.
Apart from a new subwoofer amp they didn't think the speakers needed an upgrade as they are already Alpine. But I've got the XS model so I don't know if they are already better? 2008 FL2 TD4 XS Zermatt Silver, Manual

Ok here is what I have decided on doing as I really wanted to improve on the supposedly high end alpine system...

Audison bit ten processor
36 SQ/M dynamat covering double skin on all doors plus boot area
Front door speakers - HERTZ MLK 2 TW
Rear door speakers - HERTZ HSK 165
Sub Amplifier -HERTZ - HDP 1
Front & Rear Stage amplifier - HERTZ - HDP 4
Subwoofer - JL Audio W712-3

Everything is to be hidden and using the factory mounts and grills so it will all look standard.
The amps are to be hidden under the spare tire in a custom rack.
Sub will be boxed and placed in the boot at 1 cubic foot in size and is removable at any time should I need the space.
This should be a serious improvement over the factory setup....should all be finished by next week. 2011 FL2 HSE SD4

Can anyone advise if its possible to retro fit the rear LR sub? I've got the piddly screen stereo all built in. So looking for a better sound.

Either that or upgrading speakers with aftermarket.

Thanks, 2013 FL2 - Black Edition Auto
