South Africa 2012 Freelander 2 SD4 S Auto Alaska White
Please gather round, all ye learned Freelander owners....

... And advise me on how to get rid of a foul-smelling A/C , for lack of a better description.

On "recycle" it cools down the interior and no foul smell.

On "ventilation" it still does its cooling job, but with foul smell into the cabin.

Foul/stale smell is same I had on A VW , but then said smell was evident when on "recycle". "No-smell" in the cabin with it set on re-cycle did the trick on the VW for some time...

Should I pull the pollen filter on the Freelander and chuck a tin of A/C "no-smell" down the air ducting..? Confused 2012 SD4 S

Change the polen filter (use an activated carbon one) and have a HVAC professional cleaning and bacteria removal...

Will it work taking into account that the fouling is on the fresh - air intake side of things.....?

Something tells me having it in the cab and vents on re-circulation as per instructions , will not eliminate bacteria in the fresh-air ducting....

Just to add to the above...

Quite bizarrely there was a known "issue" with the Focus ST 225 which caused the same types of queries on their forum when I was a member.

Turned out a foul smelling, eggy whiff from the air-con was actually caused by the screenwash water going stagnant. Yes, I know. Bizarre. But true.

Almost certainly unrelated to this - but thought I'd mention it because:-

a) it's kinda funny
b) the shared Ford lineage with the Freelander.....

Beat me to it.....

I would also add running 10 mins a month will help even in winter ( stops the bugs ).....

As for the ford thing - having just replaced my condenser I can confirm it shares many bits of the mondy and galaxy....

I'm sure I also read other bits are Pug but I'm going off topic now
