If only they took the time to look at what car the customer drove there in, it's sometimes a rather good clue that these people are actually able to afford a new car.

You might have just won the Euro Millions and could actually now afford to buy the dealership and sack the lot of them, but youre still driving your Mini Metro, (you know, the Ive just won 50 million but I will still live in my 1 bed council flat types) you can never tell a person from just looking at them or what they happen to be driving at that moment.

England 2011 Freelander 2 TD4_e XS Manual Zermatt Silver

og ive just gone from a d3 auto to a freelander manual, its ok, i do still prefer auto right up to where i look at the mpg or pay to tax it.

But two recent trips to oxford and twickers, once on the motorway and up to speed 65-70mph and into 6th i never need to change down once, there is plenty of torque there to pull up hills and accelerate with. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

Thank you for those reassuring words,
I must admit I have loved the auto , ( once the box worked properly ) & I think the engine & auto box combination compliment the car, but come paying at the pumps & annual road tax I look forward to the manual.
It will be interesting to see how it responds towing, i will have to be patient because the manual has a very short first gear & the auto was so quick of the mark even with the van on the back so i will miss that bit.
( I have had great fun at traffic light on dual roads when whole line of cars has come down the out side & I just hit the trotter & away it goes with 8 mtrs of van on the back and it storms off leaving all the cars behind stranded in the outside lane )
Most of my driving is motorways & A303 M3 M4 & M5 & autoroutes in Europe so not too worried.
I have had countless manual loan cars over the three years sometimes for weeks at a time so I am aware of how the manual drives.
I wasn't too impressed with the SD4 auto box , had about 3 loan ones and unimpressed with the abruptness of the changes both up & down whereas mine is almost seamless & so smooth so felt it would be a step backwards.

I too am about to find out how it tows, the d3 was a heavy old girl and not too quick on the pick up,

So I am up for any tips as this is my first freelander and my first car without a low box for 10yrs or more, I am a tad concerned about the clutch and reversing with the van on the back. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

I had the SD4 before my Evoque and I now have the TD4 manual. All I can say is the manual is smooth and effortless between gears pulls well for it to be the lower horsepower engine, overall I'm pleased with choice. If the new 9 speed auto arrives then I may consider gone for that next. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200

That's a great choice of car and options Oldgeezer - almost exactly same as my own - albeit that was in 08. My Landie has over 60,00 miles, original clutch - only significant failure was the ABS modulator - other than that it has been faultless and the best car I have ever owned. As a tow car it clearly is not in the same league as a Disco - but if your rig is failrly light it should be fine. I tow the Longliner with two outboards, dingy, anchors, spare fuel, kit, passenger etc and really do not notice the load at all. Great for recovery/launching on steep and slippery slipways!
Happy motoring.

2013 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Manual Ipanema Sand

Good luck Oldgeezer with your new car, I'm sure you will find it just fine for towing your caravan. Mine tows a Bailey Unicorn Valencia (plated up to 1600kg) great, done over 10K miles over the last 3 years and no towing problems. Must admit the clutch can smell a bit after an extended reversing session but not had any clutch slipping problems. MY 2013 TD4 XS Manual, Ipanema Sand.
