The car came with Goodyear wrangler all weather mud & snow.

As the car is only a few months old it's yet to experience a Winter, which will be spent in both Switzerland & the UK.

I've been offered a reasonable deal on a set of new Goodyear Ultragrip Winter tyres & I'm thinking that's what to fit from November on. I've been told that these are superb in extreme Winter conditions.

Does anyone have experience of the allweather tyres in heavy Winter conditions or can compare the two ??

Goodyear Wrangler HP AW are OK in the snow and I've used them in Switzerland for short periods without problems. Most Alpine countries will accept All Season tyres in lieu of Winter providing the All Season tyre has a minimum of 4mm tread remaining.

My experience is that for the first season when the tyres are new you'll probably be fine but after that there will be a noticeable drop off in the performance of All Weather tyres.

Given that winter tyres are optimised to work in low temperatures and are designed to work in winter conditions, if it was me and I was going to be regularly in the Alps then I'd be fitting winter tyres, if it was only for an occasional trip then I'd probably stick with new (ish) all season/all weather tyres.

All weather tyres are OK, winter tyres are a huge step up.
