Blackvue In-car Cameras

I will soon be embarking on a road trip through Norway and would like to record as much of it as possible. To date, I've recorded trips using a Canon camera on a suction mount and found the results more than acceptable. Having GPS detail would be useful, so I wondered whether using a Blackvue (380G) would provide satisfactory results with the added advantage that it would record traffic events.

Having viewed quite a few Blackvue recordings online, I'm concerned that there is a tendency for the recording to pulsate between light and dark. Also, on some recordings, there is a pronounced fish-eye effect. Could Blackvue users advise me whether the video is good enough quality to keep as a permanent record of a trip?

The thing is with these type of cameras is that once the disk is full then it starts to overwrite the old files and only record in a maximum of 3 minute increments.

I'd say look into either a GoPro or a Contour camera which also has GPS. These are more dedicated cameras for your needs and would have a much better image quality. I've had no experience with them myself but these appear to be the cameras of choice for such jobs.

In full 1080hd my records for I think 12 hours
With a 16gb Micro SD card, you could always take your laptop and download the files and start fresh the next day

Mine is quiet a wide lense so is a little fish eye but very clear, they all seem to suffer white balance jumping due to bright sky's etc Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

AiiEEX, I had the loan of a Go Pro but found the mounting system a fiddle. The Blackvue seems simplicity itself by comparison. It's also a lot more discreet.

npinks, yes taking a laptop is a necessity. Can the problem with the white balance be reducied by pointing the camera down or would that cause problems with reflections from the bonnet?
