I didn't even concider this japanese thing. Too many rice-cookers on the road here.

I am happy with my FL2.

Norway 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

When looking for my new drive I tried the "rice-cooker" as Viking puts it, but it was way way below the quality of the Freelander and nowhere as fun to drive. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

Not a big fan of Japanese cars. We did look at the Nissan X trail when we bought the Jeep. Can't comment on it's off road abilities. I'm sure it would have done everything we asked of it and been very reliable too, but as with most Jap boxes, it was a characterless lump of that soft cheap feeling plastic they seem to make all their cars from.
Compared to the build and feel of the fl2, no jap box was ever going to get close so I didn't even bother to look this time. 07 Freelander 2 TD4SE Tambora Flame, side steps, privacy glass, mud flaps, boot liner and a tow bar. Ok it's the Wifes but she lets me drive it occasionally - if I've been good!

X-TRAIL

Drove a manual 2005 diesel X-trail for 1 mile and turned round and went back to the dealers.Salesman was very surprised to see me so soon! No power, noisy and not a high enough driving position.Don't think you could buy a diesel auto then either. Stornaway grey SE auto with 18" alloys

Drove a 2007 petrol engined x-trail as a rental car and although the engine was perky enough and the handling fine, there was just too much cheap plastic (not as much as a Dodge or a Ford) and too many items that were pure crap in teh ergonomics and design department.

The worst of them all was the wing mirror adjustment being down near the bonnet release latch, meaning bend down adjust, then sit back check, then bend down again to adjust....again and again, and yeah you should only need to adjust it once but still, its not nice.

The Pathfinder was only tempting because of the petrol engine pumping out almost 300bhp (If I remember correctly), and its presence factor...it is big looking, but apart from that nothing special at all.

The Mitsubishi's are the most underpowered 4x4's out there and very poor interiors, but I would say the worst by far are the American efforts which generally speaking only have the engine that is worth talking about, and still with all the cubic inches on offer the power output could be better...or they could just use slightly smaller capacity engines with better power output...like the rest of the world?
