Got me thinking as I was watching the new RR sport video which he revs upwards of 6k.

I rarely go beyond 3k in my FL2 (in my Esprit, I'm rarely below that!).

Should I be pushing the Freelie harder?

Can someone explain the relationship between torque and power... and how these are experienced in driving a car...?

power is potential energy, torque is the actual turning force on wheel . without sufficient torque your engine quickly looses revs and power.

so torque is the actual work that the engine does, power is just its potential At work

This is a constantly recurring theme in motorcycle circles.

One definition of torque is "A twisting force that tends to cause rotation". The more torque you have, particularly at low revs, the better. It gives great low-down acceleration. Electric motors produce their maximum torque instantly and so accelerate well at low speeds compared to internal combustion engines. Diesels easily beat petrol engines at this too.

However, to make high bhp figures you need to rev higher because bhp is found by multiplying torque by a constant (that differs depending on whether you're using lb ft or newton metres to measure torque). Broadly speaking that's why multiple cylinders with high revs produce more horsepower than single or twin cylinder low revvers, although the "feel" of a low revving torquey engine is, IMHO, far preferable to a high revving screamer. I keep it between 2000-3000 for good swift progress, its not intuitive to do that as you expect when you plant your foot and make it scream it will go but once above 3500 its making lots of noise and not making much better progress.
I run mine on v-Power diesel which to me seems much free er revving, it will whizz past 4500 and up to 5000 if I plant it and let it fly, not sure if its just momentum taking up that high or a limiter/gearbox issue.

Power's a measure of work done.

The RR Sport will have been petrol...the rev limiter on diesel FL2's will be set approx 4500 rpm.  Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

ok so torq is like a 12 ft pole on your wheel brace, , all well and good but it still needs some power to push down on it, torque is not the magic cure, power is king,, but absolute power is dangerous, just look at the mods on this forum, know all, f&%k alls
