I like the question by Andrew the best, "Is this web site a joke" says it all really.

Nice to see you quoted me!

The 'official' purpose of the site is to provide somewhere where potential Land Rover owners can ask existing Land Rover owners (and not necessarily Land Rover dealers) 'ownership' type questions. Some people are wary of joining forums and asking 'simple' questions as many forums (not necessarily Martins forums) have members who 'mock' such questions. We were told that Land Rover want to provide somewhere that people can get honest answers that are not from the company, but from users of the company product. That said, it's not meant as a 'technical resource' and any 'dealership' type questions like "What's the best price you can buy a Freelander for?" should indeed be left to dealers. The owners are indeed genuine Land Rover owners who certainly haven't been told to tow the company line (and were told to be honest) and get no reward (other than helping people out like on a real forum) for their time. I can't comment on (or defend) the site design (either layout or the way it works) or the way the owners were selected. I do however see what Land Rover are trying to do and think it's a good idea and a clever way of promoting the brand.

Clearly there are many nay sayers on here, I've put the armour on and hope the arrows that will clearly come don't pierce the shield.

Andy.

No need for armour, a criticism of the site design is not an attack on the vehicle owners.

I agree with every comment made here - the site is a nightmare.

I like one question that is featured on the homepage......"Is this site a joke?" ..... excellent!

Perhaps Land Rover would do better and support this forum instead - they would probably be able to save a small fortune as well? Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet?

Many Thanks EY.

It wasnt just the building and running of the site that cost, lets just say the 'launch' made you understand why FFRR's aren't cheap. Cracker of a day out at the factory though Wink certainly made you feel part of the 'team'.

Andy.

I endorse what Andy J has said and there are at least 3 Freel2 members amongst the Talk Land Rover owners. The site is very new (live to external questions April 10) and, yes, to get things going, there were some planted questions. The owners are all different and some tech questions will not get detailed answers. "Go and ask your dealer" is a safe response.
It's a genuine effort to allow would-be owners to ask existing owners questions and it's not moderated so that the answers are completely genuine; what went wrong, what you like, what you don't like, which dealer is good, which let you down and how else you can buy parts/accessories and get things done. It's not a forum so conversations aren't possible, same goes for saying thanks for a good answer. Owners get no thanks, no perks, just satisfaction from helping strangers who ask for advice.
Unlikely that Freel2 users would learn much but we are lucky to have so many good contributors and most regular potential LR owners won't know about Freel2. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red
