light scratches

I know we have some professional detailers amongst the members so I hope someone can advise me.

What is the best way to remove/treat very light scratches from paintwork, especially black paintwork?

I have on my front bumper (the body coloured plastic piece) a couple of very light marks (I think from bushes etc when parking).

I wonder how the professionals would deal with these?

I don't think you will ever remove them unless you have it reprinted.

But.... There are many good polishes out there that will help reduce how visible the scratches are by filling them. I use autoglym, they have a variety of good polishes which would help. Try there paint renovator or just there super resin polish over the sctatches and then buff.

Hope this helps

Scrape your nail down them. If you feel the scratch then you can make it look better but that's all, if not, just polish it out with a tcut type polish. Always wax after any polishing though.

Theres that stuff they show on the shopping channel like a pencil thing, they use that and its virtually repairs a written off car in a swipe of the pen. Shocked

Boycey,

Meguiars Scratch X and elbow grease works well on my Tonga Green, which is nearly as dark. Helps to offset the untrimmed hedges on our Cornish lanes. (Then polished with Autoglym Deep Shine for added protection).

Autoglym Utra deep shine is a polish, it offers no protection Confused

For that you would need to find a AIO polish, or best still a wax or a sealant Wink Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

the problem most people have is understanding what a polish and wax do.
a polish removes a thin layer of paint to reveal a fresh surface that has not been affected by sunlight or general dirt or weather.
a sealer seals the finish be it good or bad .
a wax covers the finial finish to protect from the weather elements.
so on a good paint finish that is free from scratches and surface contaminates a wax is usually all that is needed .
on a paint finish that is scratched or feels rough to the touch a polish is needed then a coat of wax.
wheel wax is great to stop brake dust sticking.
then you get on to machine polishing, claying, sealers etc..gets very anal or verging on ocd at times.

Nowt wrong with claying Evil or Very Mad
It's the only way to prep paintwork proir to polishing and it's quick and easy. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I know this isnt a light scratch, I think its down to the primer. Ive two scuffs like this about the size of a 50p on the rear bumper. As the primer is white they dont show up that bad. Does anyone know of a cheap way to fix it? I can live with the two marks just wondered if anyone knew of a quick/cheap way of sorting it out?

Hey steve5tapes (why are you called that),

I would get that scratch looked at ASAP, if the weather elements start to lift the paint it will look much worse!

Have seen many cars over the years (in particular Fords), that have had excessive paint lift from damage that you have shown.

I would either feather it down quickly with wet & dry 800, then paint it or alternatively just use touch up stick as you say the white primer is in your favour. Or I would get one of those mobile outfits to touch it up, would prob cost about £40 to£50 depending on the damage, the photograph is hard to gauge.

Regard the original op be careful with paint treatment products, what you remove you cannot put back unless you repaint! Would use special polish designed for removing swirl marks G3 produce some, then polish and seal! 'There is thunder' then 'There is the warble of a V8'
