I got distracted making a phone call before I left my drive, carried on with the call and when I hung up 10 minutes later I noticed the bloomin red park warning light on the dash. When I parked up 10 minutes after that the discs were again smokin'! I blame the bloody armrest being in the way. Better not tell wifey or she'll be banning me from driving it. Yeah, I did this earlier in the week just for a couple of minutes until I noticed a slight judder as I was driving. Could really do with an audible warning as well, that light is pretty subtle. FL2 2011 SD4 XS in Galway Green

Speaks volumes for the effectiveness of the handbrake, doesn't it! If it worked properly you wouldn't be able to drive off with it on - not without having to use a noticeably excessive amount of power.

Speaks volumes indeed, the volume of the warning bong also leaves a lot to be desired, its not very loud at all.

Out of interest, what happens with the electronic handbrake?

Well, I am an MOT tester and recently this FL passed it's MOT test - not carried out by me, by the way- although I am perfectly entitled to test my own vehicle. The required handbrake efficiency for a dual circuit vehicle is 16% (or less if more than 50% of the wheels lock). Having just fitted new rear discs and handbrake shoes i noted that the efficiency was far in excess of that with both wheels locking. In fact when bedding the shoes in by applying the handbrake with the vehicle travelling at about 25mph, both wheels locked up and I did a bit of a skid. There is absolutely nothing wrong with my handbrake when it is applied fully. Being an auto and with those bloody armrests, I rarely yank it on fully and I think my wife must do the same. I think it would be near impossible to pull away with my handbrake fully engaged. Perhaps I should practice that!  Past: FL2 TD4 HSE Auto

I'm with you Steve - that armrest blocks your view of the handbrake and it slips your mind to release it  BETTER looking half of the famous Twinlanders

taztastic - the electronic parking brake releases automatically as you drive away as an alternative to touching the footbrake and manually releasing the lever prior to moving off.

If you apply the epb while still moving you get an audible warning - if you apply it while moving very slowly you still get the warning but the brakes lock up with a thump which wife and dogs do not enjoy (so well worth doing every now and again) MY13 SD4 HSEL Barolo/Almond/Privacy Glass/Spoiler
