auto gear stick button problem

The button on my LR2 gearstick had a bit of wire/metal sticking out of the button location preventing the button from being pressed in, fiddled with the wire and it disappeared back behind the button. It is causing the button to stick on occassions and can be heard rattling

How do I remove the gearstick and gain access behind the button?

Thanks

I suspect the spring has failed, don't think you can get the spring though, you may have to try to adapt one Question

Thanks both, spring had failed, u shaped with 2 coiled sections, the spring had failed on one of the coiled sections. losing me a 1/4 of the total length of the u shaped spring.
I managed to put it back together with the original spring less 1/4 of it, it will be ok until I get a new gear knob, atleast the short broken section has been removed and wont jam up again

From the instructions on removal I found it easier to put back together removing the boot and its immediated plastic surround from the main surround, once in place clip it all together.
Without t=the instructions I would not have worked this out Thumbs Up

Know doubt the new knob wont be cheap Sad

Many thanks

I read this thread with interest as i also have a FR2 auto. but i can't find any situation when i need to use the button on the gear shift. I can Engage the gear lever in all required positions without the need to press the button in even though the manual says i should need to. It does not give me any problems but it does not seem right.

I would lift up the surround and re-make the plug/socket connection underneath, if that is not your problem then the lock switch is permanently made or the lock solenoid is the problem.

The only problem it would give you is inadvertently putting into 'park' or one direction while going the other Shocked

Roland(90 - Thats not right I would pull of the gear stick nob and refit.
Have vehicle in park and have the putton pressed while refitting knob
