Australia 2013 Freelander 2 TD4 S Auto Indus Silver
Highest klms Freelander

Anyone who wonders how far there Freelander 2 can go should should be reassured by the following posts from the:
Australian Land Rover Owners Web site:

http://www.aulro.com/afvb/freelander-2/164...r-2-a.html

"One of my customers has a Freelander 2 TD4 with nearly 195 000km on it. No major failures in that time.
I got to thinking after I serviced it last week that it must be up there as being one of the highest mileage Freelander 2s in Australia. How far have yours gone?"
That one had turbo issues at 199,000 KLMS

Followed up by:

"A month or so ago now we have a client trade in his FL2 for a new D4
His speedo reading was over 320K Km's.
Few minor issues when new & carried out the recalls applicable to his vehicle, but apart from that no "major" issues whatsoever."

Given that Australians are known for telling the truth, that is seriously good mileage from any make of vehicle.
Thats just shy of 200,000 miles.

Anyone know of higher mileage Freelanders 2.

200,000 km's is only 125,000 miles so no, i am not particularly assured. My audi a2 TDi has just got to 125k miles without any problems (in spite of being remapped at 30k miles) and plenty of VAG TDi engined cars (the 1.9 and 1.4's) get to 200,000 MILES without any problems. I would expect any diesel to go to 150-200k miles (240 -320k km's) without problems...... I hope i haven't dropped a clanger buying a Freelander this week..... eh tu?

We have had 20vw's at work out of a fleet of 35 all put the con rods through the block, all less than 60k miles all sub 3 yrs old. Personally I wouldnt give a vw let alone a cock car room on the drive. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

If 20 VWs all put conrods through the block you need to take a good look at who's driving them! That suggests serious abuse on the part of the drivers. VW engines aren't the best, reliability-wise, but they're not that bad!

All across the board, we had em go on young lads, old farts, the lot and vw didn't want to know so now we won't touch em, and gearboxes. They are so poor that i had to have a clutch in mine, and for perspective, in nearly 30 yrs of driving and averaging 40k miles a year I have never had to have a clutch in any of my vehicles.

Oddly enough all the vehicles were from 07-08. My11 freelander 2, xs, Manual, 18" hse sparkles, sidesteps, privacy, zermatt silver metallic, almond nutmeg alacantra, twin electric towbar

I tend to agree with above, 20 wrecked engines does sound like a driver training or workshop negligence. However if they were all from a particular year then perhaps there was scope to take/threaten legal action if you were so convinced it was VAG problem? I have run VAG vehicles for 35 years averaging 20k miles annually with only 1 clutch and no stuffed engines. However back on topic i am still surprised someone thinks 120k miles is so exceptional. Even back in the 60's my father was getting 150k miles out of BMC 'B' series engines. I understood the ford 2.2 unit was a strong reliable engine? eh tu?

I don't think anyone's suggesting that 120K miles is exceptional - the OP was just asking whether anyone knew of FL2s which had exceeded that mileage. Note that the OP also makes reference to an FL2 with 320K Km, which is 200K miles, which was traded in with 'no major issues'.

I tend to regard 100,000 miles as the point at which I want to get rid of a car, but not because of concerns about the engine, simply because one tends to get a lot of minor (but expensive) issues after that point. I'd expect the engine and major drivetrain components to do 200K miles with no problems. One should expect components such as the clutch and Haldex units to do the same, but unfortunately that doesn't always seem to be the case...

I have had three Passat 2.0TDi's all did 90k + in just over a year each an 07 & an 08 & a 59. all trouble free and I did 600-900 miles per day no issues whatsoever

Company i work for have over 45K vehicle on fleet and con-rods on VW do not flag as an issue. Nissan engines and some PSA engines put a few " leg out of beds "

I think driver training and may be the servicing schedule or quality of oil used may of been questionable or the biggest issue that people overlook is the damage done just when engines run low on oil and wait for a light to come on before topping up. Driver training issue.

If you thrash a VW they burn oil if you don't they never seem to use oil. all of mine never needed topping up between services unless someone else borrowed the car for a week,

Bambi, do you have a cause for the conrod episodes?

There is a driver round here working for Euro Car parts, drives like a complete idiot, sliding round corners, revving to death the engine, and this is in a tiny VW, not sure if its an UP, that is liveried up and very conspicuous, obviously a retard with little intelligence and its not his car so he doesn't give a damn for that or anyone else.

Sorry this is going off topic..... I had an 57 plate Audi A4 2.0TDI 170. When out of warranty an injector went. Cost 900 quid to fix, my local back street garage fixed it. They told me that Audi had changed the injectors in this engine (from Bosch to Siemens) and that the injectors are unreliable, they said take it up with Audi. I looked on the net and sure enough, the 2.0 TDI 170 bhp engine accross the VAG range (Audi, VW, Skoda, Seat) between the 56-58 plates were all having injector problems. I took this up with Audi who took my car in, checked the injectors and replaced one more free of charge, 2 had been changed by the previous owner. Appaerntly this affects over 100,00o engines!! Have VAG issued a recall? NO!! They say that if you fear for your safety (when the injector goes your car just dies) then you local dealer can check you injectors for you and replace if needed. What a poor attitiude from an major car manufacturer. I think it stinks! Black MY2013 SD4 GS Auto, Wood Company Armrest, Freel2 sticker.
