I've been lurking on here a little while and had my FL2 for about 10 months now, bought from new.
One thing that is rather unfortunate about frequenting the forum though is the green-eyed monster! My SD4 GS just isn't enough anymore. It's a great car but it's a bit too utilitarian for me now and I want a bit more refinement - but love the FL2 and don't want to be going the Evoque route.

Am I mad but I'm planning on selling my 2012 GS to get an HSE? I don't really want to be putting too much more money into the mix though, so assume that'll buy me a 2010? Not too fussed this'll be a pre-facelift but ideally I'm after at least a years warranty on it too, so does that mean I must go dealer route?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Why is your GS not enough any more?

Maybe consider fitting a TomTom built in, getting the interior upholstered in leather, worth considering as you may lose more by swapping.

There was a post on here a company will supply and fit a sat nav into the space you have, you could source a hse interior and swap over, any part ex will leave you well out of pocket. I just picked up a 60 plate xs with most of the toys. I do find gs's just a little basic but don't need all the hse gear. So find xs is spot on,

Make a list of what you want/need then go looking.

Am I correct in thinking the SD4 doesn't have Terrain response etc? (I know it's Fr wheel drive only)

There are some fantastic offers around at the moment with up-specced GS and XS models at dealers (and I guess Qtr 2 offers just coming will be as good or maybe better) . I guess it depends on which toys you want?

Personally, with modern smartphones improving all the time I can do without factory fitted satnav. Having had it previously the times I really needed it are rare, and definitely don't justify the extra cost.

The SD4 has 190bhp, whereas the TD4 only has 150bhp. The SD4 only comes in an automatic on the FL2, I'm not sure about the Evoque. Otherwise, the TD4 and SD4 are the same. The 2wd engine is the ED4, it doesn't have terrain response etc.

I'd look at the xs.... although I will say if I'd have the option I'd prefer not to have the sat navigation.... it's not great and I'd rather stick some thing else in the space.

I find that LR sat nav is great! Much better than my old TomTom. Even if I didn't want it, it comes as standard on the XS and above.

Its so so, you still have to watch where its sending you like telling you do a U turn in 300 yds on the motorway they still arent that clever.

and in a couple of years its out of date?
most phones have sat nag on now,

I was in my friends car, and his brand new Garmin told him to drive through a dual carriageway! So far, the LR sat nav has been great.

Well at least my FL2 satnav hasn't done what the Volvo RTI twice told me to do in Gothenburg, which was whilst in the Götatunneln told me to turn left "Now!!!!"

Also it doesn't have the intense desire like our Garmin to send me down narrow tracks with grass growing up the middle in order to save half a mile which otherwise would be on 70mph dual cabbageway. I mean I do like pottering down stretches of 3 ply but there is a limit.

There's been a time or two when I've followed the LR satnav instructions against better judgement, and the initial impression has indeed been why the devil has it sent us this way, e.g. whilst faffing around Burton on Trent in one case and getting ravelled up in temporary road works, only to find that there wasn't much difference between the outcomes regarding journey time.

It does seem a bit slower to re-route after a wrong slot. Feels like too long spent urging you to U-turn round rather than keep going in the direction and go another way round.

Basically the essentials I want are as follows:
Electric memory seats (wife and I have very different settings and getting fed up of having to change manually each time we swap - not fussed if leather or not though)
Armrest (ideally something like on BMWs to put loose change in etc but not sure they exist on FL2)
Sunroof (spec'd I on my GS and is a must on replacement car)
Not fussed about satnav etc
Not fussed if a TD4 rather than SD4.

An XS with a sunroof & memory seats might fit the bill.

I was in a very fortunate position that through work I got a reasonable discount off list when I bought the GS so won't have lost too much if I chop it in. It's kind of for that reason I'm going to hopefully minimise the depreciation by getting an older but higher spec model which will already have had its 1-2nd year drop in value. I'll likely only put on 5-6k miles on it each year hence not fussed getting a slightly higher miler.

From a dealer you can get 11my XS from about £20-22k and HSE a bit higher at £24k+, just depends on your budget. 21MY Defender 90 S 3.0 D200
