Good evening, everyone. Here's our Freelander Story.
It was late in 2003 when we bought our first Freelander, a silver 52 plate diesel ES, as a second car to cope with the muddy narrow East Anglian lanes around home. In no time our No.1 car (big German estate which didn't like mud...or bends...or narrow) was relegated. We replaced the FL with a 54 plate HSE Face Lift ex-demonstrator in Cairns Blue. We never looked back and its been Land Rovers ever since. The estate and the FL were chopped in for FL2 Td4 HSE in Sumatra/Beige in 2007 and that was our trusty workhorse till we realised our life dream and moved to the far North-West of Scotland three years ago. We decided to upsize to Disco 4 at that point. No complaints about the D4 except for the (lack of) economy on steep single-track roads and the rather spongey cornering. So with warranty about to run out, 3 new tyres needed and 27mpg getting too much the norm - plus we only ever set up the third row seats when we had to get at that pesky spare wheel winch - we looked at the FL2 again. Brief dalliance with MY 11 SD4 to find the dash hadn't changed since 2007 and the D4 has a lovely dash but found the new engine and auto a delight and now here we are... back in the fold. Our 2013 SD4 HSELux is here. Stunning Barolo with Almond interior and privacy glass & full-sized spare. Drug pusher's car? No, the only drugs aboard are for hyper-tension and flatulance. So happy with the ride, so taught and smooth, the lightest of touches on the throttle and away she surges through this excellent auto gearbox. Well content! I'll keep in touch. Couldn't agree more about Scotland - God's country until Alex cuts the umbilical and we all float away into the Hebridean sunset - or is that mixing politics and religion?
The HSE is settling down fine and we are relishing all the premium touches that the MY13 brings, just as the MY07 turned a workhorse into a showhorse
