TD4 SD4 What does it all mean?

I've tried a search both on here and www but can't come up with an answer.

I'm getting an SD4 but what does SD stand for?

Logic tells me that TD stands for Turbo Diesel(?) and the 4 (cylinders?) but that may be totally wrong.

I understand the performance difference but why the double branding.

I may have said before but on other forums I have used the name Dumb Tony!! Now you know why.

I think TD4 means Turbo Diesel 4-wheel drive. SD4 doesn't mean anything I don't think, it just implies that it's more powerful than the TD4. Am I wrong?

SD is for "Sport" Diesel (190HP) as opposed to Turbo Diesel (150HP)> The engine was remapped at the top end for the Evoque to give it a more sproty profile and the same engine was then offered as a cost option on Freelander.

The Freelander SD4 was released in September 2010, the Evoque came out in July 2011. Both SD4 and TD4 are offered in the Evoque as they are in the Freelander 2.
